Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed West Ham will learn Lucas Paqueta’s fate mid-way through the 2024-25 campaign.

West Ham United’s hopes of cashing in on Lucas Paqueta have been dealt a significant blow, with the club now facing the prospect of waiting until the middle of the season to resolve the Brazilian’s future.

The midfielder’s alleged involvement in a betting scandal has severely impacted his market value and almost certainly prevented his leaving for Manchester City last summer. Even rumours surrounding a move this window back to Brazil appear to have come to nothing as potential suitors are likely to have been deterred by the uncertainty surrounding the situation.

West Ham had been counting on a significant transfer fee for Paqueta. However, the club adapted to the situation in some style, finding £100 million plus without the funding from the sale of one of their ‘crown jewels’. The impact of Paqueta’s uncertain future extends beyond the financial implications.  It remains to be seen whether the midfield maestro can sustain his form whilst the cloud of both suspicion and the result of any disciplinary decision hangs over him.

West Ham will need to carefully manage the situation and ensure that Paqueta’s presence does not negatively affect the team’s performance. The Hammers’ newly rebuilt squad is brimming with talent and it will be intriguing to see how Lopetegui integrates the Brazilian’s talents into the team.

Agree, it is not the site it used to be. I guess we cannot blame them for cashing in. It is unfortunately the way it works, more articles, clickbait headlines, more views, more ad revenue.

Played in central midfield in a free role one of the best players in the world, worth £100 million plus, now we have a proper manager who plays him in his true position instead of wide left the premier league will see how good he is (if he stays out of trouble!)

If I had one worry from the game today, it showed how much we still rely on Paqueta for creativity in Moyes or Lopetegui’s system of play.

If we lose him, and I fear we will (as the authorities target clubs of West Ham size rather than the super wealthy ones that can drown them in legal process), then we will still be in a bit of trouble even with all these new signings.

I agree with your assessment on Paqueta’s creative influence (Vs Celta)
Once he left the field, West Ham lost something in midfield, but then again, he is our record signing, Brazilian international, I wouldn’t expect anything less?

George Earthy, repeatedly referred to as ‘Young George Earthy’ is still a teenager, only made 4 sub appearances in the 1st team so far, so unsurprising he isn’t on a par with Paqueta…. yet.
