Steidten invites Liverpool offer with valentines message

Sky Sports’ leading reporter in Germany has this morning released a statement from Tim Steidten that doesn’t make for good reading for Hammers fans. Florian Plettenberg revealed that the West Ham director of football is aware of Liverpool’s interest in him but cryptically states that he hasn’t heard from them yet!

Steidten also alludes to the success of the summer transfer window and states that he is “generally happy” at West Ham, whilst also revealing that he’s looking forward to the next few weeks and months. The German signed off by suggesting he’ll see what happens at the end of the season.

Speaking on social media, Florian Plettenberg wrote the following: “Tim Steidten, Technical Director of West Ham. Interest from #LFC?

“I’ve heard that I am supposed to be on the list at Liverpool. It is one of the biggest clubs in the world, so it’s an honour. But so far nobody from LFC has contacted me yet.”

“I generally feel very comfortable at West Ham. I quickly realized how intense this league is. Accordingly, we signed the right players in the last transfer windows. The squad is strong, so we can achieve our goals.”

“I am looking forward to facing the next weeks and months until the end of the season. Of course, we are already planning the next window. What happens in the future, we will see.”

Steidten operating in straightjacket

Reading between the lines, this is a shot across the bows for West Ham. It’s clear to see that Steidten is lining himself up to leave the club, and who can blame him? He’s a Director of Football in name only. He’s seen the chairman pull the plug on deals, such as the one to sign Ibrahim Osman, who subsequently signed for Brighton.

Steidten is probably as flummoxed as any fan at West Ham’s indecision with David Moyes, and I’m quite sure that there are more attractive jobs out there. The Hammers probably do have an opportunity to keep him, but they’d have to allow him to do his job and help recruit the next manager.

However, the two stale managerial candidates leaked by West Ham would suggest that Steidten has no involvement at all. I can see this all ending in tears, unfortunately.

Oh dear, it seems that there is more fighting between the board members than there is on the pitch from the players. Are we in a mess, or what!
