West Ham Technical director Tim Steidten is ready to raid Ajax again after bringing Mohammed Kudus and Edson Alvarez to the Hammers in the summer. This time he may be on the move for the club captain Steven Bergwijn with the winger not prepared to rule out a move.
The Dutch media claims the Hammers are interested but it seems more likely to be in the summer given the lack of finance and the club keeping a careful eye on FFP. However, the player is believed to be of great interest to the Hammers.
Bergwijn has big Premier League experience having played 83 times for Spurs, scoring eight goals and assisting a further 10.
The suggestion is that with Said Benrahma proving inconsistent he could be on the move in the summer with Bergwijn replacing the former Brentford player. Bergwijn is refusing to reject the possibility of a move to the east end insisting that anything is possible in football.
His quote was tweeted by ITK Fabrizio Romano in which he said, speaking to ESPN Netherlands, : “You should ask my agent. “Leaving Ajax in January? In football, you can never rule out anything.”
“But I am happy here, I have my children and family here.”
