West Ham bored the living daylights out of me against Brighton last night which came as no surprise once we saw the line up. Sadly, so sadly, it proved what many have been saying for a long time, West Ham have a great first time and nothing much else. It also made me realise again that the best move of the summer was in bringing in technical director Tim Steidten whose magic is on the cards this winter hopefully.
He ensured that they got the Ajax duo into the club in Alvarez and Kudus with the No 14 become just as important a signing as Jarrod Bowen. Oh how we missed him last night whilst the defensive midfielder was in absolute prime form.
This isn’t meant as an anti Moyes piece but there can be no doubt that as David Sullivan’s Number Two, Tim is the driving force behind the recruitment team at the club and all fingers are crossed, if that’s possible, he can find us the players we need this winter.
We have to sell to buy which is the tough end of the job but Kehrer looks to be on his way in what will almost certainly be a permanent deal to Monaco whilst we wait for other developments to take place among the likes of Ben Johnson, Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals.
Given Tim managed to bring the two Ajax stars for around £70 odd million – extraordinary business by the way – I believe he will be able to sign other excellent players with whatever budget he has available.
