Tim Steidten has undergone his fair share of criticism at West Ham United. As the Technical Director who oversaw the squad rebuild in August, he has fairly or unfairly, been seen as the man responsible for giving ‘Lopetegui a defence who can’t defend, a midfield who cannot run and an attack aged all over 30’. Or something like that.
But one of the perennial problems has been the ‘High and Dry’ Hammers- those who came in under ‘the previous administration’ and were expensive, unused and subsequently shipped out on loan come deadline day last Summer.
Nayef Aguerd has gone onto good things at Real Sociedad, James Ward-Prowse is at least getting the occasional game at Nottingham Forest: Winger Maxi Cornet, however is the likely ‘boomerang’ loan, West Ham now expecting him to return early in January at the early closure of a virtually unused spell at Southampton.
But if new reports are true then negotiations are already underway to sell Cornet into the Championship in January. Fantastic news for West Ham who must have despaired of ever getting his £55k a week off the books. French site 225 Foot
confirm that both Blackburn Rovers and Watford are interested in signing Cornet in January.
He’ll have to take a whopping £40k a week-plus pay cut to make the move, which has always been the stumbling block to date. However the report suggests that Cornet is now keen on a move to restart his stalled Ivory Coast international career.
Now if Tim Steidten pulls that off, he’ll be back ‘in credit’ with West Ham fans, big time. If he also brings in a decent striker under thirty in January – he’d really be a genius!
We have a massive problem at West Ham at the moment and I believe the manager is a big part of it and needs to go sooner rather than later, Moyes done a great job for us but again I believe he took us as far as he could and we needed a change but there was so many great managers out there and I can’t believe who we appointed we have a good group of players at West Ham but need a good manager to make them gel because at the moment there’s no structure there at all and I’ve never seen us play the way we are at the moment.
Don’t believe he or anyone connected with player recruiting or management have been anywhere near clever
The amount of stick Steidten gets is unfair. He has brought in some great players that any other manager would get a tune out of. It’s simply down to Lopetegui for our woeful season. Sure, we overpaid for Fullkrug, but he is a German international (yes, yes, an injury plagued international). Lopetegui was demanding a striker be brought in before the season started, and with time running out Steidten brought in an international striker. Rodriguez was Lopetegui’s choice so who else did Steidten bring in, that he got so wrong? Todibo was wanted by much bigger clubs, yet Steidten convinced him to join us. Wan-Bissaka is brilliant, (although he does caught out of position too often) and Summerville should be given far more chances to shine. None of the players Steidten brought in are crap, and a decent manager would have got us top 6. Sullivan wanted a more attacking style of football and Steidten brought in the players to do exactly that. Unfortunately, Sullivan employed a defence minded manager and told him to play an attacking style of football that he is simply incapable of doing without leaking goals everywhere.
The suggestion by a contributor on here that we should bring in Carrick and make Noble his No.2 is quite frankly pathetic! If we wish to stay a Sunday League team then by all means bring in Carrick and make Noble his deputy dog but it’s an idea straight from a teenagers football annual ⚒️☘️
Off-loading Cornet and bringing in an under 30 striker will hardly make him a genius! He’s fecked up badly on so many fronts, it’s gonna take an awful lot more to rebuild his reputation at West Ham that these weak claims!
Tim’s getting all the stick yet he brings paqman a world class baller on he’s day and was profitable! Betting scandal aside.
Kudus again still raw but bags of skill potentially world class and over 100% profit if sold! Todibo is a rolls Royce defender like a young varane and alongside kilman the pair should be solid Aaron has been fantastic since he came a massive upgrade Alvarez bookings aside is a good DM but needs a better partner! Guido is not prem quality not a TS choice btw Soler could given time to adjust can be a decent CM Summerville is only gonna get better as he matures and gets stronger Luis needs time and he is one for next season then there’s fullkrug can’t understand this signing one bit crazy he must of been smoking some Cali!
Why didn’t they just pay for Duran? The reasons are simple Sullivan ain’t got a clue but he needs he’s say as a personal power trip ruining this great club which brings you problem no 2 Lop this guy is worse than ted lasso!! He has no idea how to set up this group of great players into a team he has these jobs on his CV but he done nothing and we’re stuck with him unfortunately
Moyes left his legacy of crap players nobody else wanted .Other than ward prowse the players that where loaned out was rubbish. If we lose at Bournemouth on Monday the heat will be on the manager yet again .He should had been gone before the wolves game .And we should get a manager like Carrick. Someone who has a connection to this club with noble as his number 2
JWP was overrated too and immediately found out at Forest
Any positive return on Tim Steidten’s inflated salary will be most welcome. It was looking like he had run out of other people’s money to be able to do any sort of meaningful business. Perhaps he might be useful after all with some of our pre-loved players.
What Paul T said. Martin you are easily fooled if you think the pearl diver is in credit. Hope Arsenal are genuinely interested in him cos then we truly will move on a dud!
You got to remember that Tim is not with us – with Our Glorious Chairman Sully’s best wishes! He’s been fuming for months, because he was outmanoevered by Kretinsky and the success of the Kudus and Alvarez Ajax signings solidified Steidten’s position, especially after woeful losses during the later Moyes years. Now part of Sully’s scheming is to get back to his former position of power and drive poor Tim out. Picking Lopetegui was part of that undermining process. Whatever happens in The January window the likelihood is that Steidten will move on soon, and Sully will be happy again. The real circus starts again in the summer when all of Sully’s old agents like Will Salthouse return to the fold. I told you here first.
Steidten master class! You are joking Alvarez was picking up yellow cards week after week in Holland. Kudus temperamental but talented and isn’t going to hang around. Don’t mention Guilherme or Fullkrub what a waste of £50m could have bought a replacement for Antonio and still have some change. The day he buys an undiscovered unknown for peanuts and make’s a name for himself in claret and blue will be the time to congratulate him!
Conspiracy theories rule the world.
Yes mate your right Sullivan is the problem at the club .The difference between Germany and the premier league is a premier league club will be qouted anything up to 50 percent higher fee for a player than other leagues will .Sullivan only gave Tim a certain amount of money to buy in player’s..so we ended up as usual with free agents and injury prone players over 30 like the German. It would had took over £300ml to revamp this squad money which Sullivan don’t have .This is all down to Sullivan and moyes buying lumbering players nobody else wanted
I think those who yearn for us to go back to the days of Moyes should be considering the wisdom of giving Cornet a 5 year contract in 2022.
Tim has done an ok job, he was given a list of players and got a few of them. Was told that idiot manager was part of talks for the players. So Tim is still ok as I see it. He still has credit in the bank.. let him get involved in who is our new manager that way we can judge Tim at the end of season.
Can’t seriously see it happening I can’t see him giving up £40k a week and I think his contract is quite long if memory serves me correct. Maybe Cornet and Ings are worried the HMRC are going to come after them for taking money under false pretence’s
Well said 👍🏾
Getting the “Pearl Diver” off his butt to plug in his laptop, run his algorithms (as advertised) and come up with a realistic option is not “Genius” it is simply “doing what he is paid for”.
Anyone who can sell the unsellable player is going over and above. Perennial non-achiever Cornet has a contract for two more years to sit on his backside and take his pay for doing – zero. so, TBH I think he’ll be doing pretty well to move cornet on!
To be fair though Martin, Cornet isn’t choosing to sit on his backside is he? He’s not been given a fair crack at it. Plenty of occasion where Moyes finally played him, he did well and then returned to the bench. I wouldn’t take such a massive pay cut to help a club that signed me on a long term deal and treated me as such!
I agree but personally I still think he pulls names from a hat and just got lucky on a few occasions And what is it all about when all he seems to look at are Germans and Brazilians I think he likes visiting his family and a bit of decent weather
