The big hitters in the mainstream media are now starting to report what Claret & Hugh has been saying since November… West Ham director of football Tim Steidten is on his way out of the club.

As we reported earlier this morning, the German’s last significant involvement at West Ham was during the initial interview stage for Julen Lopetegui’s replacement.

Steidten has been operating in a diluted role at the London Stadium since the summer and has not had any involvement with transfer negotiations this current window. That said, Steidten is credited with identifying 19-year-old OH Leuven midfielder Ezechiel Banzuzi, along with data analyst Max Hahns.

If the Hammers manage to agree a deal for Banzuzi, it would possibly be Steidten’s last involvement in recruitment, as Kyle Macauley is poised to take over many of his duties.

It is thought Steidten is likely to reveal his side of the story at West Ham in what has been a time of huge change behind the scenes regarding player recruitment.

The appointment of Steidten was supposed to herald a brighter future for Hammers recruitment as the club moved to a more continental model.

However, fallings-out with David Moyes and Julen Lopetegui have gone against the Irons’ director of football, who then came under scrutiny following the signings of Luis Guilherme, Jean-Clair Todibo, and Niclas Füllkrug earlier this summer

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

Don’t agree with this but clearly been coming. Will be interesting to hear his side of the story. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Dan Ashworth come in now be honest

  • John Ayris says:

Sullivan is the problem, all negatives are traceable directly back to his deranged decisions. I call the decisions deranged as they’re so appallingly awful that it’s difficult to believe that they come from rational thinking.

We will always underachieve while he calls the shots.

Definitely being made a scapegoat. You watch, he’ll go to another club and achieve success!

In which case you have got what you wanted Gonzo. I hope you think West Ham will be a better place without Steidten, personally I don’t think he has done anything wrong yet. Macaulay better deliver though. I look forward to reading Steidtens account of things from when the real rotten apple Lopetegui started to poison West Ham.

  • Phil McDonald says:

Keep Steidten, dump Sullivan & Brady. Can’t happen of course but it would be a huge improvement.

The Steidten saga doesn’t reflect well on the club – and he followed Rob Newman who was meant to revolutionize recruitment – over the last 4 seasons we have bought too many duds

  • SirAlfred says:

He was not a Director of Football was he? He was a Technical Director and unlike a properly empowered DOF did not have complete control over football matters. He was overruled by Sullivan on Duran and the choice of coach and did not recommend all the players we got in the summer

  • Mick Bering says:

Good move to get Potter in Madness to let Stiedten go Back to square one

  • Morty says:

Well he was the cause of our third most successful manager refusing a new Contract and then never got on with his replacement, no wonder Potter wants him gone
