Former West Ham director of football Tim Steidten has issued a statement following his official departure from the club.

The German said, “It was always my dream to work in a leading position in the Premier League. And it was actually a wonderful journey at a great club with great fans.”

“Together, we initiated many processes and new structures, signed very exciting players with a lot of potential, and reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League. In the current arrangement, however, it is best for everyone to go their separate ways.”

Steidten played a key role in the signings of both Mohammed Kudus and Edson Álvarez, both of whom enjoyed outstanding first seasons at the London Stadium.

However, things began to unravel for the former Leverkusen man after a fallout with then-manager David Moyes, which saw the Hammers boss ban Steidten from the training ground and dressing room.

The situation repeated itself under Moyes’ successor, Julen Lopetegui, who also clashed with the director of football and eventually restricted his access to the squad.

Steidten came under further scrutiny this season following the signings of Niclas FĂźllkrug, Luis Guilherme, and Jean-Clair Todibo, none of whom have established themselves as first-team regulars for varying reasons.

The writing was on the wall for Steidten once Graham Potter arrived, and he wasted little time in appointing his long-time friend and ally Kyle Macaulay as head of recruitment

Tim Steidten? History. Move on. Too much ‘all our yesterdays’.

well, I’d certainly trust him more than Sullivan

Well said John Ayris! Consistently fair and insightful.

Steidten brought in Irving, Guilherme and Kante as pearl dives. It’s taken eighteen months for Irving to make his first start is the time that takes – Anybody wanting to get rid of Irving ? Expect Guilherme and Kante to make first starts in about a years time if they follow Irvings timeline.

Every other player he brought in was due to the clubs incompetent recruitment over a long period of time. No club should ever be needing to bring in nine players in one window because if they don’t then they don’t have a squad.

Steidten needed to bring a player in every eight and a half days during the Summer window and we still could have done with a centre back as a tenth one in. In the real world how does anyone ever bring in nine decent players under those circumstances ? You’re bound to pay over the top too when other clubs know that you must make signings.

That’s if you have complete authority over who you go and get, it’s known that Sullivan chose Summerville and Lopetegui chose Kilman, Rodriguez and Soler. While Sullivan wouldn’t pay the extra for Duran who was first choice for that position led directly to the signing of Fullkrug. Fullkrug is down to Sullivan not Steidten, Duran should be here instead for want of a bit more.

The club is run like a circus, it’s not possible for anybody to work effectively given the decisions that are made. Only a shambles of a club needs to bring in ten players in one window. We’re back to a dinosaur running the club, a dinosaur quite capable of saying Lopetegui is just the man, and I’m not paying a fraction more for Duran go and get Fullkrug he’s cheaper.

We will never ever realise our potential with Sullivan calling the shots, he shows how things should not be done while clubs like Villa, Bournemouth and Brighton get it right. Steidten will be taken on by a Champions League club I can see it coming.

      Excellent post John.

I am fed up reading the constant attempts to play the Steidten blame game. Yet not a single mention on C&H of the 53 forwards West Ham signed costing ÂŁ300 million since 2010. Twenty of those players failed to score a single goal including Mido, Benni McCarthy, Pablo Barrera, Nene, Simone Zaza, Jordan Hugill, Albian Ajeti etc.

It’s easy in hindsight. At the time, a lot of pundits said West Ham ‘won’ the transfer window. The flops were down to both TS and JL; Rodriguez was JL, Fullkrug and Mavropanos down to Tim, but they were not his first choices. As J Lops was not his choice! Sullivan’s cheapness rules at the end of the day.

    never liked or trusted him
i just cant understand why he is on garden duty with the biggest waste of space and money especially his brother who decided to leave with him (wasn’t sacked)
so why are they both getting anything
He should be paying us for his major balls up

Steidten became a liability to the club he failed to make certain things happen after stating that he was going to bring exciting young talented players to the club he was given a free hand to achieve that but what we ended up with was the oldest squad in the premier league the money that was spent makes it worse why did he sign a striker with a awful injury record and bring in one young player that is clearly not good enough to play in the premier league ok you can say that was one for the future but we needed players to be ready to play straight away now we are stuck just above the relegation zone thankfully potter and co have come in and seem to have steaded the ship but unable to sign any players in the transfer window which I would think that money is tight at the club right now maybe that’s what Sullivan wants us to think at least the worse is behind us now and hopefully better times are on the way

Your whole comment is both contradictory & nonsensical. Was it Tim’s fault we ended up with the oldest squad in the league? Er no.
Tim said he’d bring in exciting young players,he brought in a young exciting player that you think isn’t ready yet. You think he should actually bring in ready made players. He did, injury prone though. So what do you want?
