During last summer’s £150m spending spree, Tim Steidten, dubbed the “Pearl Diver,” completed a deal that flew under the radar. Mohamadou Kante signed a five-year contract with West Ham after joining from Paris FC.

The 19-year-old midfielder was loaned back to the French Ligue 2 club and has broken into their first team this season, making nine appearances and scoring two goals.

Born in Paris, Kante was a regular for Paris FC’s Under-19s last season and also featured for the club’s B team.

Regarded as a future prospect, this low-cost, high-potential signing is exactly the type of deal that Steidten made his name with at Bayer Leverkusen.

Standing at 5ft 9in, Kante already boasts a lean and muscular physique, a high work rate, and an eye for goal—qualities that caught the attention of Steidten and the club’s scouting team.

Data-driven analysis highlights his strong tackling, impressive distance covered, and excellent pace—all key factors in his recruitment.

Though comparisons at such a young age are premature, Kante has been likened to former West Ham midfielder Mo Diame. If he can reach similar heights, the Hammers could have a serious talent on their hands.

These are the types of signings Hammers fans want the club to focus on. With a big emphasis on PSR, there needs to be a willingness to take these chances.

With academy youngsters Potts, Earthy, Casey, Scarles, and Orford also pushing for first-team places, the Hammers could eventually shed the label of having the oldest squad in the Premier League

I have been a season ticket holder since the late eighties, so experienced the highs and lows of being a West Ham supporter. I previously wrote for OLAS and have contributed to a number of football publications in the past.

Matt Kemp you write some utter utter tosh the majority of the time.
Why are you not writing about the shambolic state the club is in instead of this nonsense. We has supporters need platforms like this to beat the drum loud every single day but things the loss of concessions, ticket prices, the overall experience inc drinks & food prices. Managerial appointments, youth players leaving for City a la Divin Mubama…..

      Dear Darren,

Matt is not a full time writer and I’ve asked him to help out a bit with transfers this week because it’s incredibly busy with the Lopetegui/Potter business.

You have three choices as I see it.

1: Write a piece about the concession prices (which we have covered on numerous occasions as well as promoting the petition) and we’ll publish it.

2: Create your own website just how you’d like it rather than trying to dictate what C&H publishes every day.

3: Stop reading this website and go elsewhere. You wouldn’t stand outside a restaurant and scream at the window that you didn’t like the menu. You’d just east somewhere else.

Leaving your location within the stadium is also quite provocative. I’m sure you probably see yourself as quite a polite person with good manners in every day life but your post above is nasty. I doubt that’s how you speak to people ordinarily so I’d rather it wasn’t done on here.

Matt is a normal guy who works full time and helps out C&H in his spare time. He doesn’t need trolling for writing a piece on a recent signing.

Take your anger out elsewhere and don’t write again unless you can be less aggressive.

I hope potter if he accepts the job offer will recall all our quality youngsters and give them some chances they can’t be worse than some of the prima Donna’s we have out th the pitch offering nothing at all, ship out the dross bring them back sign a quality striker and a dynamic midfielder and read the riot act to the rest of the, aquad if they don’t start producing the youngsters will replace them. It’s no good buying players if they are never used

  • Terry says:

Need some bravery within the manager, you only have to look at Arsenal and Liverpool how they introduce their young talent ,unfortunately this is not happening at West Ham and stems back a long time

Look at Saliba, probably one of best defenders in Premier League. Wasn’t rushed into Arsenal first team, but loaned out to gain experience. No good having a prospect warming the bench.

We have a club that does not use its Academy and throws away money without looking inward for an answer first. Of course most Academy players will not make the grade but those who stand out to not even given a thought makes you wonder why the club even bothers with an Academy in the first place.

If Potter or who ever takes charge has anything about them then surely they have to look at players like this but with the fear of losing your premiership place in the mind of the owners what manager would take a chance on such players. it is a vicious circle and catch 22 situation that often sees a young player with potential looked over time and time again.
