The Summer transfer window produced a flurry of activity after a slow start, if you remember. We were treated to pictures of technical director Tim Steidten jetting back and forth to Brazil and signings followed each other through the door later in August. I remember trying to keep up with all of the comings and goings on deadline day as players I’d hardly heard of arrived to a fanfare of triumph.
World beaters (and World Cup-winners, in one instance) we were told. “West Ham have won the transfer window”.
Six months on and the reality has sunk in that the world beaters we thought we were signing aren’t delivering. Several are injured, some are unsuited to the Premier League and the whole group has been assembled without consideration for the age or strength in depth of squad. One of the oldest groups of players in the Premier League.
In a simple sentence, a club senior source today – as quoted by westhamzone.com – dispelled any myth about the players Tim Steidten brought to London Stadium. “We have to improve. Summerville at £20million was the only value for money signing. We hope he’s back soon.” So, something approaching £140 million spent on ten players. Only ONE of them has been a value- for-money signing.
I’d say that’s a pretty plain (not even veiled) criticism of the Tim Steidten-led buying spree. Especially since we were led to believe months ago that the one shining light – Crysencio Summerville – was chairman Sullivan’s choice.
To saddle West Ham with a defence that can’t defend (after replacing three out of four) and a midfield that can’t run is a pretty awful legacy, whoever the coach is. I’m not sure Steidten will be getting hold of the company cheque book this window.
AWB not value for money? Think he’s been one of our better players this season, and £14m for a young English player is nothing in todays market
After reading some of the comments on here I really cannot understand how or why you can’t see that SNIIDn Is just looking after his beloved home land bringing all the unwanted one’s here And he appears to love a holiday in Brazil when there was no chance in getting a signing over the line with 2 days left in the market
Like Sullivan and Co or not They should NEVER have given him control in the summer
Old or crocks or old crocks is what he chose to waste money on and look where that got us
With 2 managers under his belt as well The man is as big a liability as most of his choices
What evidence do you have as to who are Steiden picks. The shenanigans during the summer highly suggest, despite claims to the contrary, that Sullivan was still meddling in transfers – Duran is a good example leading to a panic buy for Fulkrug which probably wasn’t even in the plans. Lopi also had a say in some signings as well. The Anti Steiden propaganda is clearly evident and most of us won’t fall for it!
Perhaps the next time C&H speak to their high place source. Can they tell him that now apparently he’s got control of the transfers to get he’s finger out and start bringing in players that Potter needs to get us out of this mess that Sullivan has got us into. This anti Steidton propaganda is getting really boring now. Give it a rest. Or better still just tell him to shut up.
I think we were all excited with all the new signings after such a slow start to the window. Most of us don’t know who many of the players were and are taking it that the have the essential qualities we have been missing for a few years obviously a lot of them didn’t so yeah he should be criticised. But it does seem like Sullivan has tried to shift the name for another crap season into others where it was his fault for employing a manager that nobody wanted.
AWB has been good along with Summerville. Soler and Todibo may come good Killman seems to have completely lost confidence. TS did do a bad job but it was the previous manager and the chairman who are the main reason we are in the s***
😂🤣😂 is this site (or post, at least) just for Aussies? i count 3 or 4 now and 1 or 2 are missing today 🤷♂️
Steidten’s fan boys are out in force today. No doubt they will be sobbing when he, quite rightly, gets the elbow.
This website and Hammers News have sure got it in for Tim Steidten. It’s as if Summerville, Kudus and Wan Bissaka never happened. I rate Todibo too. Kilman was a Lopo pick. The whole situation is dismally impacted by the hit and miss purchases over recent years, well before TS arrived. The club is changing for the better in my opinion, and TS will remain, I hope, very much part of that. His reputation before he arrived here, was very well deserved.
Wells said John, I agree.
In reality we have declining and ordinary for about 2 and half years. The squad was creaking even before our Euro Conference win.
It was holding together with a small (old) squad then and our league form has been average since then.
yep, also agree. 1 successful signing? ffs!
So Man City rumoured to be spending 190 million in this window. What gives? Obviously they’ve got out of their financial FairPlay charges somehow.
Kilman is a competent but unexceptional EPL level central defender but not worth 40 million and is slower & less effective than Aguerd who was already paid for.
Clearly he was a Lopetegui pick & not one of Steidten’s
I wish the club senior source would keep their mouth shut to be honest.
At last a comment I agree with 100%. These so called ITK’s do so much damage to soothe their egos.
What we need right now is a player that can play wide left or up top as a striker.
More sullivan propaganda, he went against everyone’s advice and appointed lopetegui a man that demanded we get kilman at all costs. Huge amount of the budget that could have went to duran and a midfielder.
Tim being made the scapegoat when realistically he didnt have full control or hed of picked a manager that suited his vision, but sulli couldnt give up control creating this situation where they are all picking players we’ve ended up with a frankstien of a squad.
If you had to pick sulli or Tim 140m to spend I’m picking stiedten eveytime, sulli has zero ball knowledge and even if you can credit him with summerville it’s not hard to go sign the championship player of the year.
Wan Bissaka been very good too…..
Soler ? Jury still out..
That’s about it, otherwise shocking…..
I got up at one o’clock in the morning to watch that load of crap.. I don’t no why I bother I really don’t that was bloody pathetic
Mate, I have been doing it for 18 years, thank god for firesticks although the last 12 months have been as depressing as Fat Sams and Grants reign. Lot of bullocks written (especially on this site) – simple fact is under Moyse the team was old and squad small- we did spend but also recouped and made the squad even smaller. The drive for immediate success over proper planning failed hence we did not invest in youth (just look at Chelsea). For too many years we have looked at “proven” older players instead of hungry possible younger ones- buying 2 players in their early 20’s instead of one in late 20’s would have given us pace and younger options even if they didn’t all work out. personally I would be looking at bringing Earthy and Potts back, recall Aquerd and add the striker and central midfielder from Lille who have 6 months to go on their contracts
AWB is an excellent signing, and cost nothing relative to this market. Jury is out on Todibo but hoping a new manager and a run of games proves he’s worth it. Still believe in Killman, a lot is asked of him with Mavro beside him and the Cement Shoed pair in front.
Thi is just Sullivan propaganda. To say Summerville is the he only value for money signing is complete rubbish.
Did anyone overlook Wan Bissaka?
Soler’s turning out OK too.
And why’s the poison dwarf getting the credit for Summerville? Do we KNOW?
