One of the more bizarre transfer stories suggests that West Ham United are reportedly interested in Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling, according to TBR Football. The West London side are said to be looking to move the England international on from Stamford Bridge this summer.
The former Liverpool and Manchester City player joined Chelsea in 2022, playing 43 times for the Blues this season, scoring 10 goals and providing eight assists. However, it is understood that the winger is not in the club hierarchy’s long-term plans and is available to be sold in the coming months.
West Ham have reportedly been alerted to Sterling’s potential availability and are tipped to make a move for the 82-capped Three Lions star. However, this signing would contradict West Ham’s apparent transfer strategy of recruiting young, up-and-coming players.
There is also the issue of Sterling’s significant wages. In these times of aggressively enforced Financial Fair Play (FFP) and profit and sustainability regulations, it would be nearly impossible for a club of West Ham’s size and budget to afford Sterling.
The player himself may have to take a substantial pay cut if he wishes to play first-team football, although Chelsea’s change of manager could give him a second chance to make his failed move to West London work.
