Stiles joins Mooro and Peters in sombre 1996 list

Nobby Stiles, who was part of the 1966 England World Cup-winning team with Bobby Moore, Martin Peters and Geoff Hurst has died at the age of 78.

Stiles was a frequent visitor to the Boleyn Ground and was part of the Manchester United team which became the first English club to win the European Cup in 1968.

Tragically Bobby Moore became the first member of the team to pass away in 1993 after losing his battle with bowel cancer.

Alan Ball passed away from a heart attack in 2007 while Ray Wilson died from Alzheimer’s disease in 2018.

Gordon Banks died from kidney cancer in 2019 and West Ham’s own Martin Peter passed away the same year after losing his long battle with Alzheimer’s

Jack Charlton succumbed to a long battle with lymphoma, passing away at the age of 85 in July this year.

Roger Hunt 82, George Cohen 81, Bobby Charlton 83 and West Ham’s Geoff Hurst 78 are the only remaining four members of the 1966 England team that famously beat West Germany 4-2.
