West Ham United are acting with belated but considerable haste to get their deals overt the line before 7pm on Monday: A little over two days to go and the transfer window gossip-mill is keeping everybody on their toes. The good news regarding new signings Mateus Fernandes and Soungoutou Magassa has been broadly welcomed by fans and pundits alike.
What is perhaps less well known is that the ‘outgoings’ are not going so smoothly and West Ham now find themselves in a sticky situation with ‘unwanted’ players not yet committed to leaving with several deals as yet unfinished.
Such would certainly seem to be the case with midfielders Andy Irving and in particular, the highly-paid Guido Rodriguez – who appears to be showing a tenacity (so far unseen on the pitch) to dig in and cling to his Hammers contract rather than accept a move to La Liga.
Irving has been lined up for a sale to Wrexham but the deal is not yet finalised as agents bicker to and fro with no resolution yet in sight: Guido Rodriguez, with £7.8 million still owing on the remaining two years of his West Ham deal, is showing a limpet-like ability to cling to east London and the latest from our transfer source suggests he may well hang on – even though replacements are signed and Guido will more than likely spend most of the season on the bench.
“Swerving Irving’ is a slightly different situation as his salary is more modest and unlikely to cause a hold up: More than likely the two clubs cannot agree a price as the clock ticks down.
The less glamorous, less exciting side of transfer deadline day will be trying to resolve exits of the ‘unwanted outcasts’ along with the pending discussions underway for perennial ‘boomerang ‘Maxwel Cornet back on another loan to Italy along with finalising Emerson’s move to Marseille – which looks just about done – and always of course allowing for possible last minute negotiations still rumoured for Paquetá, Soucek and Aguerd.
An awful lot to cover in a little over 52 hours.

With two midfielders incoming it will be interesting to see if Potter’s favorite JWP will still continue to be selected or if he will be relegated to the bench
