One striker admired by Graham Potter may be available for sale in the summer window with just one year remaining on his current deal. Danny Welbeck, who first signed for Brighton in October 2020, has battled injuries but still managed to make 135 appearances and score 32 goals for the club.

This season the veteran forward has contributed 9 league goals and 4 assists in 26 appearances.
Brighton are keen to raise transfer funds having spent €279.95m in the last two transfer windows. Welbeck is among the club’s top earners, with a weekly wage of £60k.
Speaking to BBC sounds, Potter praised the striker  “He’s a top player, top person. If you get Danny Welbeck fit and enjoying his football, the quality is still there. It’s about understanding what older players can do. For the environment, for the collective and help the younger players improve, and someone like Danny is a role model”
West Ham have already seen approaches for Jonathan David and Liam Delap turned down. With Danny Ings expected to leave, Evan Ferguson returning to Brighton, and doubts over Michail Antonio’s fitness, Niclas Fullkrug will be their only option up front. However, Callum Marshall is set to join the first team squad after impressing on loan at Huddersfield.
West Ham have a history of bringing in experienced strikers in their thirties, with successful examples including Ian Wright (34) and Teddy Sheringham (38).
West Ham nearly signed Welbeck in 2020 when he was available on a free transfer. David Moyes told the Daily Mail “Danny was someone who I did consider. I was probably just a little concerned about his injuries in the past more than anything else. He is a great boy and so enthusiastic. He is a good footballer who has worked hard on his game.”
Welbeck would likely be viewed as a squad player, and won’t command a high transfer fee. Still, with the forward turning 35 in November, many West Ham fans will be hoping that the club targets younger alternatives.

I have been a season ticket holder since the late eighties, so experienced the highs and lows of being a West Ham supporter. I previously wrote for OLAS and have contributed to a number of football publications in the past.

Absolute rubbish why on earth would we even consider buying yet another aging striker who turns 35 in November when Moyes rejected signing him on a free transfer due to his injury concerns? We already have the oldest squad in the Premiership and Ings on the bench picking up £100,000 a week without signing yet another player who is at the latter stages of his career. God is there ever any good news at West Ham these days?

    I honestly can’t believe what you lot write sometimes…..Wilson..welbeck …vardy ..🤣🤣
Brilliant idea we had some cracking forward signings around that age ……are.we only allowed strikers over 35 now ??? My god what drivel

Danny Wellbeck!?!?!? You are having a ****ing stroke mate!

No offence to you Matt but this site should stop running scare stories like this and Vardy, it only serves to wind people up. We already have a great older & injury prone striker in Fullkrug and I doubt if signing another is top priority

    NO! Just no…..

And yet ANOTHER YOUTHFUL PLAYER POTTER HAS no CLUE he just likes making himself look good but is doing the complete opposite All the latest names are only a couple of years younger than we already have so where is the pace we need that HE promised

  • Jeeps says:

Moyes thought about signing him in 2020 but had concerns 5 years older and we’re still looking to bring him in.
During that 5 years premier league has become more physical and calls for pace.
Not sure that can even do 90 minutes?
Like bookends Fullkrug 45 mins + Welbeck 45mins hopefully won’t be too much extra time perhaps Trippier can fill in.
Webster in at our new look back line and lowering average age looks to be going backwards.
The choices are vast academy players/freebies/old men on a wind down.
Beggars can’t be choosers as they say.

Why do we constantly get mentioned when old or injurie prone players become available, could it be the agents consider our club as a rest home before retirement. I would sooner see a young player given a chance and if they fail I’m sure they would still offer more than old players looking for 1 more pay day . A message for the board, you can change things at OUR club and if you’re not up to the task or can’t be 100% committed please step aside and let someone who can. Why can’t Kevin keen and mark noble be involved with the first team more as their attitude and commitment is what is needed. I’m sick and tired of reading about our board perhaps Brady should concentrate on OUR club other than tv and newspaper columns. Go now so we can move on before another disaster next season.

Welbeck as well as Ings need to drop down to the championship where they belong

Why are you talking absolute rubbish. Welbeck or Vardy will not happen and you well know it. Fans will not have it.
