Striker makes future decision – Romano

Eddie Nketiah has decided to stay at Arsenal instead of leaving on a free transfer, journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed.

The striker appeared set to leave the Emirates for nothing when his contract expired this summer.

But it now appears that Nketiah is set to stay at Arsenal, signing a contract that will keep him at the club until 2027.

Romano claims that West Ham made an approach for Nketiah but we can confirm that there was never any realistic prospect of the Gunners star moving across London.

Nketiah wanted too high a wage, plus a mammoth signing-on fee, and the Hammers made it clear at the time they would not be willing to commit so much of their budget to one player.

Crystal Palace and two Bundesliga clubs are also said to have held an interest in Nketiah but he will now be remaining with Mikel Arteta’s side.

He scored five goals in the Premier League in 2020/21.
