Strootman verdict

Dutch international Kevin Strootman has been linked with the Irons over recent days.

The Marseilles midfielder is being offered to various clubs including the Irons and although Manuel Pellegrini has no serious track record on loan signings this one has been speculated quite heavily.

The 29 year old – with numerous international appearances – would appear to be a reasonable signing although the Hammers midfield looks pretty crowded at the moment.

We currently have Mark Noble, Manu Lanzini , Felipe Anderson, Robert Snodgrass, Jack Wilshere, Carlos Sanchez Andriy Yarmolenko and Declan Rice available so whether a move for Strootman is required is debatable.

Hammers fans appear to think it might be after we conducted a poll on the subject. Around 1,000 took part and there was a majority in favour of bringing him in.

Those voting that it would be a good move commanded just over 63 per cent of the vote with around 37 per cent voting against a move for the player.

  1. I voted against: Concern here is not about whether good enough but whether actually needed as a short term fix. This would be a one year deal only and seems to be only on the table because Marseille are desperate for someone else to pick up the wage bill while they increase the capital value. So as attractive as the idea is, it seems a silly use of limited cash. Any idea what current wage is?

  2. If its true, he become the next Håvard Nordtveit

  3. We need more lads on wages like Rice.
Ambitious wanting more rather then stars on the final flame.
Not denying his ability but we need young and hungry players we are even willing to sell to the top 6. I don’t care if we are selling our players to the top 6 of we are it means we are on the right track IMO
    COYS

  4. And Edimilson Fernandez, Pedro Obiang and Reece Oxford. Just in case they don’t get sold

  5. Thought we needed a CF, a LB and a hungry, young box-to-box midfielder. Better ways to spend the money I would think …

  6. Voted no to we need a box to box mid & supposedly Pellegrini is against loans. I’d rather have Mario back he suit Nasri replacement.
But there are a lot of good 26 & under box to box mids who can score. Dani Ceballos would be hood at only 22 had over 100 games with Betis before. Made Real move & is loved by Enrique Spain manager. Doesn’t score a lot bit can shot from range but get play fwd great passing will get srufk in & oulk strings. Max Eggstein from Werder Bremen 22 be a good but or Max Arnold who I wanted two summer ago. Number in bundesliga & bundesliga 2 like Philipp Klement 26 now but 16 goals 9 assists #8 box to box wouldn’t break bank. Pachua Victor Guzman started as DM then move to #8 15 goals 24yo great engine. Or LA Liga Ibrahim Diaz a Vigo is very good creator. For less Jose Campana at Levante probably 10 assist now & 4 goals 26 w one year left. Or Charlton’s How Aribo if want free has 10 goals 4 assists with 4 goals in last 5 games. Only 22 on free.
Or I’d love us to take a punt on youngster ive been about all year Motherwell’s top scorer & creator all from CM in mid 2 sometimes 3 is only 19 15 goals 7 assists & think McGinn turned out good for £4m Turnbull will cost about same but already better too good for SPL. Someone will get then in year he will be wroth 5x as much. ‘Youth & Pace’ is what Pellegrini first said when he talked about signings last summer. That’s what I want ok with some smart older buys but not more Injury prone Sanchez’s if want a Chilean why not Erick Pulgar from Genoa 24yo is tall 6’2 CM 6 goals & fee assists in a team that probably will be relegated.
Empoli have young Hamad junior Traore too very good only 20 & Krunic 25 with 5 goals 7 assists is a very good mid then Bennacar too only 21 4 assists. Think Krunic would be best for what we need of those then Bennacar.
And for CF Guineamp is going down & Marcus Thuram has scored a their if their goals with 9 LW & CF only 21 is in top 5 dribblers great at take one & 190cms has the build to make it in PL & become a strong CF. Relegated teams sell for less especially outaide of PL doesn’t mean all players are bad.
