Sullivan: “Bilic’s “eyes had gone…he needed a rest”

david-sullivan_1822192c (1)David Sullivan has revealed that he was forced into making a change of manager at West Ham  because Slaven Bilic looked an entirely spent force.

And he has explained how Sam Allardyce’s words that he had the worst job in football came back into his mind as he realised the deed had to be done.

Sullivan said:“Sam Allardyce once told me he had the worst job in football.

“I said, ‘Are you mad? You are a Premier League manager, you are in charge of West Ham United, you earn a fortune . . . ’

bilic-gloom“Then he said he was exhausted. That is what the job does to you.”

It was a position Bilic was in over recent weeks and Sullivan told the Sun:“Slaven is a good man, but he needs a rest to recharge. “We had to make a change. His eyes had gone — and the fight had gone.

“When I told him, it was almost a relief. It had run its course. He wants to be liked, but we need to win football matches. I probably should have made the change in the summer, but we decided to wait. Slaven is worn out.”

Many have been making it clear that they believe Moyes too is a spent force but Sullivan said:  “Jose Mourinho had a blip at Chelsea in 2015 and was sacked when they lost ten games before Christmas — does that make him a bad manager?

“He’s resurrected himself at United and won three trophies in a season. A run of bad results can happen. David accepts what happened at Sunderland but, in my view, it is the kiss of death going there anyway.

“You don’t manage a club the size of Everton for ten years if you are a bad manager — he is a good manager.

““When I was at Birmingham we tried to get David before he went to Everton — and recently tried to get him before he went to Sociedad. Since the appointment, people have been talking very highly about him.

“I looked him in the eye and told him we have not got anybody else signed up or lined up for next season.

“He is an excellent manager — but has to prove that by keeping us in the Premier League.”

  1. Have to admit I’m absolutely gutted that Slav had to go. While it was the right decision, I feel for the guy as there are obviously many more factors in play.
As for Moyes, got to be honest he doesn’t inspire me at all; however, he is now the boss of our great club, and I will give him 100% support until I have reason to do otherwise. COYI!!!

  2. Slav had lost the passion and the desire, the players he trusted as friends stabbed him in the back with there half hearted performances. As for the board well how can you trust the Dildo brothers with the promise of a dream at Upton Park only to deliver a nightmare on Green St at Stratford. They are quite simply in for the money with the loans and the interest payments they receive from the club, feathering there own nests. Now with Championship football threatening they a appoint a manager who has only recently failed at every club he managed. Why because it’s the cheap option which leaves me suspecting that they don’t care they simply waiting for the big pay day in selling the club. Dont they realise that the fans will not renew in large numbers to watch Championship football, they cant charge PL prices and they wont get 50k season tickets sold without Premier league football and they risk it all by appointing Motes rather than invest in a proven manager and pay what it takes, give the manager control in transfers and fees, rather that Sullivan calling the tune the manager dances too.

Lastly remember these three have form, look at how they destroyed Birmingham City FC.

  3. To be fair no proven in form manager would come to us right now. Our net spend last season was 13mil…! Our board have no intention of buying in January. They make bogus insulting offers to buy players who they have no intention of buying. Take Carvalho for instance, potentially a great addition to the team no doubt, he wanted a move yet we attempted to buy him at 32mil but by paying 8mil over 4 consecutive seasons…! It’s lsughable! That’s not an offer it’s a p***take insulting my intelligence. They do their business in public by announcing who they ‘want’ which ramps up the price and effectively puts that player out of the bogus price range. They took out the loan to buy West Ham at 9% interest and are now charging West Ham 12% interest in return for their money. The team needs players, our defence is shot bar Zabsletta, the midfield needs a Carvahlo, the team is unfit, tge stadium is unfit, tge crowd are very unhappy so please tell me which proven decent msnager would come to us under such circumstances? I think Moyes is as good as we could possibly hope for right now and I think he’s took on an almost impossible task. We’re s**t…from the top to the bottom and to the f****ng core…! We have parasites eating away st the soul of our beloved club waiting for their payday. Good luck to David Moyes for taking on the job if he fails I won’t be blaming him. F****ng Dildos need to go snd until they do we won’t win FA and will be lucky to remain s premiership club over the next 5 seasons.

Good luck to Moyes I’ll be over there cheering him snd the team on I just hope he instills the discipline needed and plays those in form not those with names who sell shirts. If he does we might survive

  4. eyes were tired a spent force. how many people in any job would survive if you keep telling them you have 2 games to save your job every week you bunch of retards. yes Slav was a great man, doesn’t mean he will make a great manager but he was pressured from day 1 to get us in top 6. what a joke of a ambition. never replaced payet the man who created 95% of chances for of us. The players I don’t know where to start. average bunch who should actually be better than 18th position. Joe Haart not needed, Zab a great player once not at 35 years of age. chico well what’s the point if you have no play maker who is our stupid recruitment advisor. owners I backed from day once since they took over. anyone who slated them I was backing them but now I have to say I am done with them. our club will never move forward with this bunch in charge. and Moyes well I will give him a chance because we have nothing else.

  5. maybe if you hung yourself than you wouldn’t need to look in to Slavs eyes, even fat Sam had enough in the end. even if they offered a contract he would have 100% rejected it. working for ********s not worth any amount of money.

  6. Amazing how all the well overpaid pundits are giving it all the big one . Who really gives a damm what the pundits say …?.
None of them have the skill or nuts to manage a football club . Too cushy on the Sky News armchairs .
At least people like Bilic , Moyes , Hodgson , Redknapp ect ect have the guts to take it on .
I wish anyone with the courage and conviction to manage a Football club all the best luck in the world . PUNDITS CAN GO DO ONE ., they ain’t worth a spit , not one of them .
Are you listening,, Pundits .??. Especially those at Sky News sports . Of which none were any great shakes as players anyway .

  7. Slav said he is taking off a while which he deserves he said until Jan _(hope he means 2019) figured at least summer. He has options
But like others said great guy and the players gave up on him but didn’t make a great mgr he has show has good 1st year.
But great guy wish him the best of luck think the US job would.suit him less training did good w Croatia at start.
Meantime destress & get the band back together

  8. That’s it Mr Sullivan- I am sure that description will make the guy feel better about himself. Don’t bother explaining why you sacked him, what he looked like, why you should have sacked him earlier ( nice touch), why you have appointed Moyes. Please just don’t bother!

  9. Back stabbing parasite 64 ! Sneak !!! Big time charlie with deep pockets !!😎
How much on the table for Jan ? Oh yes , gold already told us ! Not a lot !!
Maybe Moyes will surprise us ? He will have to lol.

    • More than a bit naughty , Laz . Sullivan now saying the things he’s saying .
If the board leave Moyes to do his job then maybe we’ll get through this season reasonabley undamaged . But , having said that the fans are hard work . Unforgivable stuff against Past Managers has cost us . The move to the LS has cost us . In terms of support it’s cost us . Never seen so many fans walking towards the exit before the game is over .
The Pundits have also contributed to our demise with Thier clever little comments from a studio armchair . Karen Brady needs a right good Pund-it as well . But to be fair she was the one to carry the message from the Dave’s to Bilic .
Personally I would have liked to see Pardew given another chance but , there you go .
All we can do now is get behind our new Boss and help him succeed . Sweaty or not .
Will he give the youngsters a chance .? ,, hope so but not under our present situation .
If we are or when we are safe from relegation then yes , I’m all for it . Suddenly the Cup , I mean any Cup is not so important as survival in the Premiership .

  10. It starts v Watford ! I hope he gets a result for everyone’s sake ! Not going to be easy that’s a certainty kev , players away on duty won’t have had much time to go through the new fitness régime and tactics wise ! Maybe andrenalin for the new boss , not the same as the old boss!
Cos we won’t get fooled again 😂 sorry couldn’t help that one ?.

  11. Wot nothing today from JimmyJizz? Home from work and looking forward to reading the thoughts of one more depressed than me, but no sign!

  12. Nobody signed up or lined up for next season because they all turned us down!!!!!!!!
Please don’t suggest Moyes fell for that?

  13. If anyone as sad eyes it’s you Sullivan your like the cartoon droopy dog please you & Gold & the wicked witch of the West sell up as im sick to death of your bleating & lies & suprise suprise to cap it all there’s no money for January transfer window even in your clown costume you must have some cos you’ve bled us fans for the past few seasons I hope Moyes plays some youth as Everton are at mo & Unsworth ain’t scared to leave out big named Charlies. Hey Sullivan your better break your Miss Piggy bank for January cos the players we’ve got I wouldn’t stand in the same trench as them in a war so no chance in a relegation battle
