Sullivan Is Right To Be Wary Of This Lopetegui Replacement

From the ‘four shortlisted candidates’ reportedly being considered, West Ham’s board have a choice to make on Friday, apparently, regarding the end of Julen Lopetegui’s unfortunate tenure as head coach at London Stadium.  Pundits and fans alike have been vociferous in their suggestions for their own particular favourites: David Sullivan has his own ‘litmus test’ which needs to be passed for any possible candidate.

Premier League experience is a must and being available without a payment compensation package needing to be made are two of the ‘non-negotiables’ we hear.

One who meets these requirements and is on that shortlist, apparently, is Graham Potter, the former Brighton and Chelsea manager. But yesterday Sullivan and West Ham were warned off Potter by the somewhat controversial broadcaster, Talksport’s Simon Jordan.

No stranger to football, Jordan was chairman at Crystal Palace for ten years until their administration and believes he has some wise words for the West Ham board:

“I think Potter’s a flake. Sorry, I know it’s not a particularly positive thing to say, but I do.”

“And so, if they think that Potter is the answer, that would be an interesting outcome.

“I think his tenure, the manner in which he conducted himself at Chelsea was weak and lightweight. And I thought to myself; ‘That’s not much of a leader’.

Graham Potter – ‘weak and lightweight’

Sullivan is known to be lukewarm about the appointment of Potter which I’d hitherto considered to be on purely financial grounds as he’s one of the most expensive managers ever. However, it seems there may be more alignment between David Sullivan and Simon Jordan than we had thought!

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970.. 'Football is Life' oh yes. Let it raise your spirit but never darken your mood. Life's too short not to enjoy the journey with our Claret and Blue heroes n' villains.

David Sullivan has a small man big ego and won’t admit he made a mistake in deciding to over-rule Tim Steidten’s picks of Amorin and a couple other European coaches. He WILL NOT pay compensation so only wants out of work managers with EPL experience. He will not pay compensation for the most important person to lead the club!

Sullivan must have learnt everything he knows from ‘Football Club Ownership For Dummies’.

I’d like Tim Steidten’s job. Spending other people’s money until it’s all gone. Then move on to the next one.

I mean look at that picture? He wouldn’t look out of place as a communist leader.

Potter had no money and took Brighton to a different level and they are still benefiting from his reign in some form, so with no money available he should fit into Sullivan brief.
From what I can see Sullivan brief is get rid of Jlo for as little as possible and get in another bargain basement manager. If the manager they bring in is free surely that should reflect on his salary, then there should be benchmarks along the way. Football is a results driven sport…….Jlo didn’t get the results but I’m still wary of Bargin basement Sullivan and hopefully he takes the advice of Steidten and we get someone that knows about football, passion and goals!

I tend to agree he has no real solid proof Brighton have done better without Not to even mention Chelsea

Potter was brilliant at Brighton We couldn’t beat them for years and they played great quick exciting football dont forget that

Your right, I wouldn’t disagree and he would be my personal choice but it’s a fair point is he a leader? I’m not sure when the going gets tough and he needs to make hard, clinical decisions he might be lacking and I’m not sure that you can gauge that during the interview stage. The majority of us have little faith that between them they would get the next appointment right either. The same can be said with Jared Bowen, great spokesman but not sure he’s a leader on the pitch and giving someone a rollicking. It’s never an easy watch home or away and it’s a long time since expecting to win now we can only hope!
