This will not come as news to regular readers of ClaretandHugh but it’s worth reporting just to ensure it’s firmly on the record.
We were – many weeks ago – the first site to report that there will be absolutely no action in the transfer market this January given that there is no cash to spend and we are up to the limit on FFP.
Matt Jarvis has left for Norwich City but chairman David Sullivan has today repeated the position reported by ourselves – there’s no dough to spend.
Speaking to Sky Sports News: “Unless somebody leaves the club who is on our wage bill at this moment in time we don’t have a penny to spend on wages.
“We would only let fringe players go, or if somebody made an offer we couldn’t refuse. We’re not going to be selling players for £10 million, £20 million. We’re a non selling club.”
That’s the trouble when you own the club you don’t have to shut up,
Sooner listen to him then most pundits,
Personally i wish he would shut up.
First he says after the chelsea game “we could finish in the top four” we haven’t won since that statement, now he is going on about no money to spend like we are some two bob club.
It might be true that we haven’t any money to spend but i wish he would keep it shtum.
Ginge signed Jarvis gone if we can shift JOB we will,
But we don’t need anyone else just some good news on the injured,
In a months time we will have to many players again,
If we had good offers for Jelavic and Antonio I would let them go and use our youngsters to cover, bring back Samulsun for Antonio and use Lee instead of Jelavic,
But I am happy with the squad for the first time in years
The way it reads to me, Sully is simply saying that if they can move some players on, there will be wages freed and room for new players, and if they cant, then there will be no in coming players. Thats all. No double speak or anything like that.
Reading his statement l dont see anywhere he says that there will be absolutely no action in the transfer market this January.
Yes Canchaz he speaks like a well drilled lawyer.A loss to the Saints will change everything. It’s not rocket science how to free up wages and buy in January. All that is missing is the ticker to do it.I have heard all too often about January being a bad period to buy.Maybe they are looking too far from home?
Everything said in this interview has a get out clause in it. Sullivan could do anything or nothing and it wouldn’t be a contradiction of his words
