Reports that West Ham Chairman David Sullivan will not sack Julen Lopetegui due to a huge pay-off are wide of the mark.
Sky Sports are reporting that the Hammers’ finances are so precarious that it would stop West Ham from dismissing the 58-year-old Spaniard.
However, the situation with Lopetegui remains unchanged. If the Hammers lose to both Newcastle and Arsenal in the next two Premier League games, the former Spain and Real Madrid coach will likely be given his marching orders.
Certainly if the Irons continue a slide down the EPL table with no indication of a turnaround, the Hammers board will not jeopardise the clubs top flight status.
Reports suggesting Lopetegui will be afforded more time because of the players he brought in are also inaccurate. While Lopetegui pushed for the signings of both Max Kilman and Guido Rodriguez, Kilman had been linked with a move to East London under previous manager David Moyes and had been extensively scouted by the club for two years.
J-lo did not have major input in many of West Ham’s summer transfers with director of football Tim Steidten overseeing most of the signings.
As for Lopetegui’s potential pay-off upon dismissal, the Hammers would not be required to pay a single lump severance fee. Instead, they would need to honour his monthly wages for the next 18 months or until he finds alternative employment.
Whilst no doubt, the club would prefer the appointment of the former Sevilla manager to work out, they’re certainly not handcuffed from sacking him by finances.
Is Alan Curbishley still waiting for us to come calling?
Seraino Dalgliesh is Summerville’s agent not Will Salthouse so this would be a Tim signing as he fits the young, dynamic profile.
Wan-Bissaka is represented by Will Salthouse and like Kilman, Soler and Rodriguez were signed to satisfy JLo.
I still believe the young Spanish forward we missed out on was again JLo’s choice. Dhuran and Jonathan David would’ve been Tim’s preferred choices before we ended up with Fullkrug.
It’s safe to say our midfield & lack of a young striker are our areas of weakness.
If Sully had trusted Tim’s choices for the coach to replace Moyes and striker, I think it is reasonable to assume we would be in a much healthier league position.
We need JLo to go and ensure Tim is aligned with the new coach.
Man Utd let their former manager bring in players and that didn’t end well for them. They now have a better vibe since their clueless manager left with a young coach who is admired and respected.
Surely we can do the same!

Why doesn’t Mr Sullivan sack the manager as he hasn’t done his job,in any other job he would have gone by now
Gonzo I’ve got to give u credit. I’ve never known anyone who plays both opposing sides to a tee as well as you. 👍👌
Pay his wages for 18 months or until he finds employment… Why isn’t he gone already ?
“J-lo did not have major input in many of West Ham’s summer transfers with director of football Tim Steidten overseeing most of the signings.”
except for the three he personally requested, kilman, rodriguez and soler. whereas sullivan/salthouse brought in summerville and AWB.
tim got the deals done, but he didn’t get to actually be a DoF.
“would prefer the appointment to work out”. Please explain to me how that might happen. How do you erase the cause and effect of the last 5 months? How does one person suddenly change from gross incompetence and totally lacking in any obvious coaching skills, to a coveted leader and master tactician, because anything less is not what West Ham were looking for in May 2024. West Ham leadership were conned and that needs to be corrected, immediately.
It’s widely known Sullivan Tim and loppy picked three each loppys three kilman good buy but Rodriguez and soler, come on soler not an improvement on ward prowse I purposely watched him to see what he’s about he doesn’t tackle and Rodriguez is no where near Alvarez and everyone knows you control midfield you have a better chance of winning the game but our midfield is like a string vest full of holes
If JL had any sort of morals he would leave now and not be paid a penny but that won’t be the case he will push to get all he can out of the club so he can’t lose I don’t understand how he ever became manager of the Spanish national team he offers absolutely nothing tactical no vision of how the team should play if him and his side kick think there doing great then they need locking up away from sane people JL and his back room staff need to get out of the club ASAP
Why would you offer a ridiculous financial package to an unproven manager ? Surely, like anything these days it is performance related. Whatever we think of Sully, he is a businessman and surely would have conditions in the contract in place. We are talking West Ham though, so a p**s up in a brewery comes to mind !
