Graham Potter has made an excellent impression during his first three weeks as West Ham coach, and last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa really saw the team begin to dance to the new manager’s tune.
However, there was a very early indicator of what was to come from the former Brighton boss during his first game in charge against the same team in the FA Cup.
During the opening sequence of that fixture, Potter deployed Crysencio Summerville in the right wing-back position to devastating effect. It was an early insight into how Potter saw the Dutch winger’s role at the club, as well as a pointer to how important the player could be.
Unfortunately for Summerville and West Ham, he was taken off with an injury at half-time and hasn’t been seen since. And yesterday, during Potter’s pre-Chelsea press conference, he gave a disappointing update about the winger, who looks likely to be out for longer than expected.
“Summerville is very doubtful and taking a bit longer than we anticipated,” Potter confirmed when asked about the Dutch winger’s availability.
West Ham’s new gaffer is measured with his words and clearly not prone to hyperbole, so the phrase ‘very doubtful’ is to be taken at face value.
It’s a shame for the player, who will be keen to show his new boss exactly what he can do and create an impression of his own. That said, the return of Jarrod Bowen should be a big boost to the attack, and I’m quite sure that Aaron Wan-Bissaka will continue to perform well in the wing-back role in Summerville’s absence
Ffs really..when he was taken of it didn’t seem that bad ..
even more reason to stop fking around and get someone in so they can settle quickly…
If you watch the latest ‘behind the scenes’ training video Summerville seems to take part in the full training session – didn’t look like he was carrying an injury, if anything he looked in fine form. Hopefully he will be back sooner than expected.
Sssshhhh don’t tell Chelsea ⚒️⚒️⚒️
