Summerville Transfer Spells Trouble for £17M Man

The signing of Crysencio Summerville from Leeds United will likely signal the end of Maxwel Cornet’s West Ham career.

The £17m signing from Burnley has endured a torrid time at the London Stadium where he has never looked capable of securing regular first team football.

In many respects, the Ivorian has never recovered from his trip to France to seek medical care on a calf injury within three months of joining the Hammers. Whilst Cornet did heal physically, he found it difficult to recover his reputation and standing under former West Ham Boss David Moyes and his confidence has never truly recovered.

The left winger has failed to impress during any of the three Hammers pre-season games in which he has featured under new Head coach Julen Lopetegui.

I doubt Cornet will have too much trouble finding a new club. He still has a decent reputation and standing outside of East London and there will be a number of managers who will be willing to take a punt on the 27-year-old.

However, West Ham will have to accept that nobody will pay close to the old £17m valuation and it may well be that a loan may be the best option.

It’s a shame for the club and player who has undoubted talent but clearly needs a fresh start.

Another Moyes master stroke. Could someone cleverer than me work out how much his old fashioned style of I’m in charge management cost the club

I suppose that will be another big lost, it seems we never mind what we lose on selling transfers from previous poor purchases, which we always seem to make, when do we make a profit on anybody, maybe this is why Sullivan wants to barter every current transfer down as he knows what’s coming when they fail. I cant think of many players we have purchased & then sold & made a profit, we just dont do that

The only good thing about Cornet is when there’s an ice cream and a flake in one….

He needs a “fresh start” ? To be fair to the lad, under the Moysiah he hardly got a start at all.

Don’t see anyone signing him. Can maybe see loans to a low end PL club or a Ligue 1 club.

He’s followed in the West Ham tradition of the likes of Faubert or Aguerd getting injured shortly after signing and never really being able to get things back on track after.

A big disappointment, he looks a hundred miles off the pace. There comes a point when.
