The new – look West Ham board may find their resolve to hang onto top players sternly tested after one of their brightest talents announced his arrival on the biggest stage last night. It was classic ‘showtime’ as Crysencio Summerville brought his A game to the World Cup finals.
The same day that Daniel Kretinsky made his statement to The Times that financially, West Ham don’t need to sell their top talent saw one of the Hammers’ brightest play to the galleries in the biggest shop window in world football.
Playing on the right for his national team, rather than as West Ham fans have been accustomed to seeing him, Summerville’s goal gave the Dutch the lead over Japan but, in classic West Ham fashion, the winger’s side were unable to hang onto their lead and had to settle for a point as their opponents equalised in the 89th minute.
As a World Cup debut it was impressive and will have not gone unnoticed: Sportsmole.co.uk amongst many publications suggesting the Dutchman’s first goal will have further stoked up transfer interest ahead of the window opening today:

Quick to pay tribute to those around him, the West Ham winger said of his goal:
“It’s a very proud moment for myself and my family. I’m very, very happy with a goal on my debut, but a bit unlucky with the result.”
Reportedly AC Roma have been put off by his €6million a year wage demands.
With the likes of Tottenham and PSG circling, quite possibly they’ll be reconsidering if he puts in that kind of performance in the coming group stage games against Tunisia after first taking on Graham Potter’s Sweden who top the group.
I hope he does well in the World Cup in what seems to be not a great team. Personally I just want him to put the price up because he was so ineffective and frustrating for West Ham. Two poor seasons with one flash of goals and assists late this season before going back to flashy runs with no end product.
I hope he has a standout WC and we get some interest from clubs who have deeper pockets than Roma. Newcastle need a new LW, as do Arsenal, and possibly Villa if Rogers goes. He would fit the bill, and if Gordon is worth £70m, then he’s worth every penny of £50m.
Anyone else but Tottenham. Sully had his price but let’s hope the big Czech stands firm on this point.
I’m not sure that he’s not actually doing us a favour by playing well in the World Cup shopfront. We didn’t see him play for several months after he decided not to have the operation that eventually got him fit enough to shine at the end of the season and get into the Dutch squad and he’s a bit of a sicknote. He’s not that physically strong, but attracts an awful lot of crunching heavy fouls. I don’t think we’d get more than twenty games out of him in a Championship campaign.
If we really are £100m+ in need of sales, I’d offload him for £50m. Him and Fernandes would go a long way to clearing the number. In fact, those two and Diouf were all really good buys that have increased in value.
