FOR as long as I can remember, the derby against Tottenham has been one of the highlights of the season for West Ham United fans. In the Upton Park days the meagre 33000-ish capacity would be sold out months before- and even in the last few years, at London stadium most home game tickets have been branded as ‘sold out’ weeks before the top sides (and Spurs) come to visit.
Whether it is a reflection of the dreadful football on show last year, the high prices, an uninspiring transfer window, disillusionment with Graham Potter’s boring football or the current conflict between board and supporters – who can tell – but amazingly, just seven days ahead of the fiercest derby in West Ham’s calendar, tickets remain available in just about every upper tier.
I can speak from experience – last year’s home fixture was devoid of passion, skill and excitement. I’ve had more enjoyable bouts of ‘flu.
What looks, on a cursory inspection to be thousands of unsold tickets: Take a look at the e-ticketing image below from Sunday afternoon – every green light is a block with tickets available. Closer inspection reveals some blocks with hundreds of unsold seats.

Makes you wonder if the alarm bells are starting to ring with the West Ham United board yet? If they can’t sell out their home stadium for a 5.30 Saturday afternoon game – which surely must be one of the highest profile games this early in the season- then all is not well at West Ham United.
5.30 is not a Saturday afternoon
You don’t think it might have something to do with the 2 “large opposing” marches happening in Central London on the 13th? No?
Personally I’d rather be anywhere than the big smoke on Saturday.
Westham fans have the fresh memory of a 5-1 home defeat by a mediocre Chelsea team and so perhaps don’t want to waste 100 quid on a match that they’re walking out on after half an hour . Hopefully Potter isn’t the idiot I think he is and employs similarly effective tactics to those that gained 3 valuable points against Forest . The fear is that Potter reverts back to his failed tactics of yesteryear .
Everyone is fed up of this board and the way they do business. Maybe if Kretinsky headed it up and Sullivan became a silent partner distanced from the football side then it could be tolerated but as it stands many of us felt we had no other option left but to protest by giving up our season tickets and staying away in the hope more would do the same and it would lead to change. Maybe that’s beginning to be the case now MT ?
Chance for us tourists to get in. Wish all games were like this for ticket availability. Albeit, it is always a challenge with odd days and late kick offs. If only we moved to a stadium somewhere near me. That’s life – I’m getting on with it instead of whingeing too much.
Complete negativity and in some areas way off the mark.
Martin, I must admit I do find your continual negative posts really quite draining. Beginning to think that you must be a Spuds supporter in disguise 🤔 I’m 71 years old , have been watching WHU since the mid 60’s & whilst things aren’t brilliant at the moment , I still go & support my team. I can understand some of the unsold tickets as the game is live on TV , and in my case living out in Hertfordshire I won’t get home until about 10pm . Following on from a 12pm home time from the Chelsea game , ko 8pm on a Friday. Please try & adopt a more supportive & less negative attitude to everything WHU ⚒
How about the ball ache of getting to and from a 17:30 match when it is on TV? My first ever match was against the spuds in 1984; you rolled up paid you money and got in. Not always a sell out.
You sound like the Jet2 holiday advert!
Nothing to do with all the people telling us to boycott games then?
I am a season ticket holder in the Bobby Moore stand. I did not attend thd home game against Chelsea nor am I likely to attend the home games against Spurs or Brentford. This isn’t because of the standard of football rather the kick off times are later to accommodate TV. The late kick off me and I would not get home until very late in the evening or in the case of an 8pm kick off not until after midnight.
Where I sit I had a family behind me and few other familiar faces around me. They have been saying for a few seasons they’ve had enough. Looks like a lot of people have had enough
Good. Exactly what the board deserve.
Realistically the football has been terrible for a near 3 years, yes we won the cup but around that we were playing backs to the wall stuff
Sullivan take note
The fans are starting to dessert the club
Such a shame that it effects the team that need the fans behind them
I am heart broken that my club is being destroyed by directors who just don’t care, just totally full of themselves and don’t have the decency to know when enough is enough and get out before you destroy it
I think the problem is the football is awful.and the pricing has gone up again and no concessions. I have 3 children who have all followed in supporting west ham (wasnt a choice!) And tickets for them for the spurs game would cost the same as mine at £80. Thats £320 for the 4 of us before travel etc
You sound like the Jet2 holiday advert mate
Absolute terrible response. when your taking children to a game you want them to believe in what there mum/dad are asking them to go with. jet2 advert what a stupid remark.
i think when all is said an done there not a lot of true supporters left hence the over the top remarks regarding board/manager/players. this is our club and so called supporters have the bigger voice and then degrade everything thats been built up for over 60 plus years. the young have to respect the passed or they are nothing.
just my view
