Cost of international breaks is far too high
The news surrounding Big Michail Antonio’s injury is so frustrating in a seemingly inconsequential international match. He has now been joined by Jarrod Bowen but history is filled with instances where players saw their seasons, or even entire careers, disrupted by injuries sustained while on international duty. CandH examines seven English players who were unfortunate enough to suffer significant injuries while representing their national team. International Hammers is a real problem
International Hammers is a real problem
West Ham make absolutely no secret of the fact that they would probably sooner have no international players in their squad! I agree. It’s surely an understandable position with the Hammers and every club becoming the victims of crowded football calendars the like of which we have never seen before. More and more managers are up in arms and the injuries they are carrying as a result of a ludicrous situation within the game. So far the Hammers have been lucky in that respect but you have to believe it can only be a matter of time before things turn the other way. We need less interational competitions and could probably live quite comfortably without then Carabao Cup come to that. The Leagues will forever come first.
Kudus booked again
Hammer Mohammed Kudus was booked again as Ghana beat Madagascar 1-0 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup CAF qualifying Group I campaign on Friday but not until the sixth minute of extra time. Former Iron Chris Hughton’s side saw the victory clinched by striker Iñaki Williams headed high into the net. The downside for Kudus was that he had received another booking after picking one up against Forest last weekend.
Mixed fortunes for the Hammers stars
It was a night of mixed results for Hammers fortunes as the international break thankfully headed into its second finale of the season so far. Sadly, a third looms next month!
