Talks Confirmed as West Ham Get Transfer Ball Rolling With Defender Offer

West Ham United are in discussions with Manchester City to sign Dutch defender Nathan Aké.

The news was broken this morning by Hammers insider ExWHUEmployee, who revealed interest in the former Bournemouth and Chelsea centre-back.

The 30-year-old has endured a stop-start career due to injury, but at his best is a fine player who can cover both central defence and left-back. As such, he would represent a sensible acquisition as defensive cover, with West Ham in desperate need of reinforcements. Interest is believed to be a loan deal for the remainder of the season with a loan fee involved.

Claret & Hugh have been able to confirm West Ham’s interest in the defender from both internal and external sources, which have verified Ex’s claim from earlier this morning.

Solid Interest, With Familiar Concerns

C&H have spoken to an agent directly involved in a previous Aké transfer, who not only confirmed the interest but also revealed:
“He was offered to West Ham for £17m after his loan to Bournemouth, but they weren’t interested.”

Aké is believed to be a serious target, and we have been told there is 100 per cent solid interest, putting paid to suggestions that the Hammers are not looking at defenders this window.

That said, there will inevitably be some nervousness around these reports, given the January loan deal for Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City, which failed to work out as planned.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

Sullivan pulling the strings again, nothing but relegation for us with him.
Mulligan must go if we have any chance of survival

Why are we looking at another 30 plus player with an injury record so we ever learn

  • The hammer 202 says:

By the looks of it NUNO will not get it his way for the transfers , he wants sofian alkarouni and now they give him ake, the club has to change ownership ASAP, otherwise westham is like a poisonous chalice

  • Clarkie says:

Would be a good loan deal only, can cover at centre back or full back, as for age l remember a 30 something Craig Dawson getting dismissed when we signed him and look how he turned out how we could do with him now and a proper leader, also people on here hated the thought of Xhaka and Calvin-Lewin being link in the summer well just ask Sunderland and Leeds fans how they have turned out, it would be ironic if Calvin-Lewin’s goals keep Leeds up

Here we go again.Another journey into the world of ageing ,injury prone players. Why bother it’s too late now ,after two years of shambolic transfers, both in and out this team is on its way down.Perhaps a year or two in the Champioship will provide the opportunity to completely rebuild a successful squad although with the present directors it’s doubtful.

  • Sue says:

Ake another injury prone past his best
No please let’s get some fit younger players in, we do not want to be how we are at the moment with over paid, not up to the premier league fitness and their clubs trying to off load them at a high price
Please, please look for youth abroad if necessary if prices are over the top here

Really is this Nuno target or a gift from Sullivan

  • Jimbo says:

Over 30 years old, on £200k per week, injury prone and no resale value. Have we learned nothing from our transfer mistakes over the last 3 years? Oh Dear.

  • Jeeps says:

Hopefully this won’t be instead of Cresswell.
Another cheap skate Sullivan deal for aging 30 year old.
Loan with no obligation to buy is only possibility.
