West Ham United are still actively pursuing Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters. Sky Sports Dharmesh Sheth reports that negotiations are ongoing, with Southampton holding out for a £20 million transfer fee.
Sheth disclosed that West Ham’s interest in Walker-Peters has been ongoing, but the clubs have yet to settle on a price. The Hammers initially bid £15 million for the former Spurs player, which Southampton promptly rejected. The Hammers were hoping to include KWP in the deal which saw Flynn Downes move to the South Coast club but negotiations have proved to be more tricky than expected.
“West Ham has been interested in Kyle Walker-Peters for quite some time. I’m informed that discussions are still ongoing with Southampton, but they haven’t yet agreed on a fee. The gap between what West Ham is willing to pay and what Southampton is asking for remains,” Sheth stated.
The addition of Walker-Peters could significantly bolster West Ham’s defensive options, particularly as they look to strengthen and add depth. Despite having Vladimir Coufal in the squad, West Ham appears eager to intensify competition for places to enhance overall team performance.
The urgency for reinforcements became apparent after West Ham’s pre-season friendlies, which lacked the presence of a first-team or academy right-back, following Ben Johnson’s departure. Walker-Peters could be the ideal candidate to fill this gap. Kaelan Casey put in an impressive performance against Dagenham & Redbridge yesterday but is a central defender by trade and not in the clubs plans as a full-back.
Pay up or walk away. Why not swop JWP for KWP. JWP wasted at West Ham, FP and JWP in same team.
Straight swap for Danny Ings would be a better deal for all parties.
West Ham get the back up right back they’re looking for and Soton would get to see their biggest legend return.
Win-win.
Sullivan and part time Brady useless. They were desperate for Downes had 3 years left on deal so we sold him for 15/18 million. We will buy kwp for £20 with one year left on his contract. These couldn’t run a piss up in a brewery or Brighton will get him for 10 million
Maybe I’m wrong, and apologies if I am, but are we about to sign the next maldini? No enough of this will they won’t they, tell southhampton to do one and we move on
There will be a compromise eventually. Just like there was with JWP last year.
They have a player in the last year of his contract not signing a new deal and have already signed his replacement. They’ll want to recoup that cost and look to avoid the player going on a free. Whether it’s a meet in the middle scenario over price or more favourable payment terms I reckon this gets done in the next couple of weeks.
Your prob right Alan but just seems so unprofessional doing buisness like this especially as we knew how much they really wanted flyn …..its just giving them everything they want now, were haggling over 5 mil and wasting more time
How thick can our club be ….we sold flyn to them and it went through just like that ..if they want kwp why did they not do a deal …are they THAT stupid…now soton have us by the b*…….when we sell players it’s easy as pie …but to sign one, my god are they bad ….I’m utterly gobsmacked they sold flyn and now haggling with them over kwp ….rid
I can’t believe there isn’t a decent RB or a gem (Which Tim is renowned for) somewhere.
Liverpool had that young 18 yr old come in and turn on the style. So where is ours?
We lost our bargaining position when we sold Downes separately. He was a player they were desperate to sign. We hear so much about how good a negotiator Steidten is, but this seems to be a schoolboy error
Totally agree with you!
All this fuss over a good player but nothing special, and only 5ft 8. So West Ham. Like two men arguing over a comb.
If we really want him, and have bid £15m, and they want £20 m, then for God’s sake just do it. Are we serious here?
100% mate …its infuriating..same old s*
