Ten year anniversary of Hammers FA Cup final

2006_FA_Cup_Final_ProgrammeToday is the ten year anniversary of the 2006 FA Cup final between West Ham and Liverpool.

Many neutrals still call it the best FA cup final ever but for Hammers fans that 91st minute equaliser by Steven Gerrard stills haunts us a decade later on what could have been.

West Ham had a dream start in Cardiff and were 2-0 up after 20 minutes thanks to a bizarre own goal from Jamie Carragher and a Dean Ashton goal.

However, four minutes after the latter, Gerrard sent a long ball to Djibril Cisse who volleyed Liverpool back in to the game. Then, it only took ten minutes of the second half to draw level with the Hammer. It was that man Gerrard who got the goal, latching on to a loose ball in the West Ham box.

Shortly after that West Ham found themselves once again in the lead again in bizarre circumstances – as Paul Konchesky’s cross looped in to the net.

But just as it looked like West Ham would win the FA Cup, in the first minute of stoppage time, Steven Gerrard ran on to the ball 30 yards out and scored THAT goal that would sink the hearts of all Hammers fans in the ground.

Liverpool went on to win 3–1 on penalties and the rest as they say is history! It still hurts!
