“He’s not the player he was a couple of years ago.” Those words could come back to haunt West Ham ahead of our next game.
Everton v West Ham is Monday night’s Sky Sports fixture, with Jack Grealish set to take centre stage for David Moyes’ Toffees.
The £100m star was heavily linked with a move to West Ham at the start of the transfer window, as Graham Potter looked to inject more flair into his squad. But when Claret & Hugh asked a top London Stadium source whether the Hammers would make a move for the then-Man City man, we were told he was “not the player he used to be.”
That judgement now looks deeply flawed. Grealish has become the catalyst for Everton’s strong start to the Premier League season. Far from being finished, he is showing the same form that persuaded City to pay such a huge fee to Aston Villa.

He has always been incredible. Just at Man City, they wanted ordinary to fit in their team and were prepared to pay £100million.
David Moyes takes his time but he so often picks players who really love their football and have the right attitude. I really wish DM well at Everton for all he did for WHU. Obviously, wish no 2 is that WHU finish above them.
I don’t think we made the wrong decision, we would be paying a loan fee and high wages, Summerville is back and we have bigger priorities than left wing. Grealish is a quality player but we are supposedly moving to a model where we buy younger players with legs and a resale value. We can’t have it both ways and even if Grealish does come out on top this Monday still will believe that long term the approach was better this window.
Think the problem was it seemed Pep wanted him to release the ball early at City so you never saw the true Jack Grealish. Made me laugh when West Ham said he wasn’t the sort of player they were looking for – aaah yes, one who can play football, beat a man and attack defences – that wouldn’t go down well with Mr.Potter !
Its one of the few positions we didn’t need a player we have summerville and guillemere.
If we use the talent we have in the club effectively, we don’t need a Grealish.
Trouble is Potters reluctance.
Moyes has done it (Lingard) again (Grealish)!! Fair play. I guess our hierachy/ Potter didn’t think he was up to Guilhermes level to challenge for a place on the bench!! 🤣🤣🤣
