“That’s a Bit Rich” | Irons Stunned By Defenders Wages

West Ham’s transfer bid for Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka was confirmed to Claret and Hugh yesterday by a high-ranking Hammers official.

It is understood that an agreement was very quickly reached between the two clubs over the player’s transfer fee, with the Manchester club then giving West Ham permission to discuss terms with the player.

Unfortunately, that was the point at which transfer negotiations began to stall because it turns out that the former Crystal Palace right-back is on a hefty wage. Whilst our top club source was unwilling to give specific details on the player’s salary, it is understood that Wan-Bissaka earns more than the reported £90,000 per week.

Therefore, it’s safe to assume the player will need to take a pay cut to join West Ham if he wishes to play regular first-team football.

That being said, the defender’s wages are still some way short of the ridiculous £10 million per season United’s Scott McTominay is reportedly demanding any potential employers pay him.

I struggle to understand why we we thought he would be on 90k or less, they paid £50m for him… he is more likely to be closer to 150k…

He is a player that has been getting worse not better, we should be signing hungry players not has beens on huge wages.

I said all of this weeks ago, whilst we might go after the bigger names we won’t sign most of our targets as we won’t pay the wage they demand and rightly so because the money is main interest not the playing regular 1st team football, if a players main interest is money he is not a footballer at all, wages and transfer fees are in need of a rethink and it’s time all the top honchos in eufa, fifa,, and national football associations get together to deal with this.. The trouble with all of this is it’s been put in place by the big wigs to protect themselves and the bigger clubs in every country, but in the end it will ultimately be what destroys the game of football

……. Wan-Bissaka is the latest on-off deal. We’ve already had the Walker-Peters saga and the Duran rumours. This Todibo fella’s transfer was probably a non-starter.
What price on us landing just one of them?

  • John Ayris says:

Players wages are what they can get. That he’s on 90K doesn’t mean that he stays on 90K.

He can get 90K for the next year by running his contract down but after that his wages are what other clubs think he’s worth.

Offer him what we think his wages should be while looking at other options.

  • Jeeps says:

    Completely agree.
Not only do their wages need capping but also transfer fees need looking at.
The way things are going in 5-10 years demand players will be £200-£300m, it’s called inflation so they say.
Players agents are already rubbing their hands.
Saudi’s are not helping, what determines whether a player is worth £20m or £120m.
With rules of profit and loss the situation will be ridiculous.

Awb is on £100 grand a week at united, if west ham can’t afford that they better drop to the championship !.

  • Kip says:

Ings on 125 k a week ..but They wouldn’t pay ben Johnston 50 and won’t pay basaka 90 ..🤣🤣🤣 west ham all over…🤣🤣ffs

  • Delboy says:

    It’s a nonsense story!

Of course we know his wages

The only reason we haven’t signed him already as we are playing chicken with Southampton. If KWP price can be negotiated to £10 mil we’ll buy him on cheaper wages, if not we’ll buy AWB instead.

    • Simon says:

100% Its almost stupid to comment until deals are done and you get an overview of what happened

  • HammerDan says:

I laugh!! Why do we keep chasing players who are out of reach, and then every time qw are shocked. My 1st and last thought when I saw our interest in Wan Biscuits was that his wages would be too high. So how anyone at West Ham be shocked is beyond me!!!

  • Len Scannell says:

I think Gonzo means Sullivan discovered what AWB’s wages are and had a fit when told….
    So back to KWP….

  • Phil Thompson says:

Honestly WTF do they think they are, majority don’t give value 4 money, over rated OVER PAID BIG TIME, up their rears & a lot quite thick.
Mctominay 10m a season you silly boy, yr not worth 10k a week.
    Let him stay at united.
Love to see the market collapse on players wages, then they would have to fight for a wage & starting position.👍👍

The people who deserve wages like these are the people who save lives, emergency workers, Docs, nurses, firefighters, medical staff, those who keep us alive.
    NOT THESE POMPUS DUMMIES.
It’s embarrassing, it’s kicking a ball not a cure for cancer.
    MUPPETTS

    • Ess_Bee says:

Agree with everything you wrote. I get p*ssed off when these “poor” players demand so much in salaries. Most players really aren’t worth the salaries or the exorbitant transfer fees.
I am sure these players don’t have to worry where their next meal is coming from. 😡

    • Paul says:

Your comment was a breath of fresh air. They are the real reason why OAP and disabled concessions are being axed. Pure greed

  • Dave says:

    So?

He’s a Salthouse client so we’d have been VERY aware of his wage when he was being touted to us.

Just offer him what we think he’s worth (Emerson is on £95k/wk for context) & if he doesn’t accept it then we move on & he can sit on the bench collecting his “mega wage” for another 11mths until he’s out of contract & barely played for a couple of seasons.
Doubt he’ll be getting £100k/wk+ then.

  • Ian says:

Actually looking online it seems most sites say he’s on £90k per week. So how would this be a surprise to us when trying to sign him?

  • Chunk says:

Ffs. Oh well, there goes another one we won’t be signing. Shame, would’ve loved him at our place.

  • Matt says:

    Who is shocked? 🤷‍♂️

Man Utd having been paying over the odds on transfers / wages ever since Fergie left. They set a precedent with OTT wages on over rated players like Pogba, Rashford, Ronaldo, Maguire, Anthony and so on!

I’ve always said KWP at Southampton is much more affordable. Southampton are dreaming with their valuation for him as he enters the final year of his contract.

I still feel we will sign KWP for about the same United want for Wan-Bissaka but on much lower wages. No point bringing in players which will make existing players demand salary increases.

  • Ian says:

So when we bid for a player we have no idea what his current wages are? Seems very strange
