In what should be a huge relief for West Ham fans, Edson Álvarez has decided not to join Mexico during the international break. The midfielder will instead remain at Rush Green to regain full fitness before the Hammers’ next Premier League game against Fulham.
Álvarez was injured during the Copa América in a 1-0 victory over Michail Antonio’s Jamaica team and had to be helped off the pitch, ending his tournament.
The 26-year-old missed West Ham’s pre-season and made his first start of the season in the 3-1 defeat to Manchester City, where he put in an impressive shift before tiring later on.
Speaking to the club website, Álvarez said, “It’s a decision for the national team for me to remain in London, but they understand my situation, they understand that I just came back from a big injury,” he observed.
“So I hope to keep working, to get my best form as soon as possible.
“We need to keep the good things and, of course, we need to improve lots of things too, but this is the way if you want to improve. Everyone needs to look at each other to see what we can improve.”
I’ve always hated it when players get a significant injury and then rush back to international football (especially when that’s where they got injured in the first place). Good on yer Edson. Cockney Mex geezer. And good on Mexico too.
I think we should build a protective wall around Alvarez………..and make Mexico pay for it!!
😂😂😂
Oooooh edgy comedy…. I like it ::)
