The ‘cheap’ Iron who will save our day

Angelo Ogbonna’s ACL injury is a shocking blow to the player, squad and fans.

But as we wrote a couple of says back the presence of Craig Dawson – whose arrival was roundly criticised by many as a cheap signing – has saved our day.

None of us like to be wrong and that we were buying a guy who at the time was a Watford discard didn’t go down at all well.

Indeed, initially he as a loan signing with a £2m or £3 million price tag on his head and has gone on to defy the stuff that you need to spend fortunes to get a decent player.

He and of course Vladi Coufal have been the exceptions to that philosophy and as good as Oggy has been we won’t miss him to the extent we may have done.

To be honest such was the level of Craig’s performance on Sunday that Oggy wasn’t that badly missed when Daws came on – and that really is saying something.

He’s quality at the back and has a goal or two in him – four last term and one in the Europa League against Genk this term.

Oggy will be offered a new deal at the end of the season – which almost won’t extend beyond a season – but in the meantime we will discover again just how good our £3 million man actually is.
