Guest Post on Lucas Paqueta’s Forced Exit From West Ham
Firstly, I know many will disagree with me, but this is just my opinion.
I’ve always been a sucker for a player with that South American flair, but I also recognise it often comes with a ‘lively’ temperament too! You’ve got to be prepared for the good and the bad.
I never think it’s right for a player to refuse to play—the club pays your wages, so you should do as they ask or request a move in the proper way.
But what we learned when dealing with a certain Frenchman is that there’s very little a club can do if a player uses that tactic. Nobody wants to see a player clearly not trying on the pitch—it wastes a place and you know you won’t get their best.
Many will say he’s been too unreliable for a while and might as well go. I understand that feeling of being let down. But…
We need to remember what the FA has put Lucas Paqueta through for almost two years. I can’t recall another case so long and drawn-out against an active player—maybe others can? The strain it must have caused him, his immediate family, and his loved ones back in South America must have been enormous.
That’s where I place most of the blame. To me, the FA have conducted an unfounded witch-hunt, and seem to have got away with it without consequence.
Yes, we thought he’d stay at West Ham longer, and yes, it hurts that he wants to go—but he’s going back home to be with his family, not to a Premier League rival for more money.
Maybe he isn’t up for the relegation battle, but given everything, I’m not surprised. And let’s be honest, the longer he stays, the less the club are likely to get for him.
I’m disappointed, but I still wish him well.
Who knows how different these last two years could’ve been without the FA constantly on his back?
No hard feelings towards him but does this open up a chance for Ward Prowse, you know the player that can actually take a corner. Nuno is a nightmare and just because Ward Prowse ( allegedly)called him baldy he would rather lose games than have him back in the team or at least as a set piece coach. Still at least we might have a chance against Burton if we take this cup more seriously than our past few managers.Heard a little bit of trivia today, Ken Brown is now officially the oldest Englan player alive at 91.
They should do what they do here in Saudi in private employment. You get a 2 year contract, if you want to leave before the 2 years are up then you have to pay the employer however many months wages left for the remainder of the 2 years. That would soon stop some of this type of refusal by hitting them in the pocket. I know they have plenty in reserve but this type of players main driver is money not the team!
There are a number of points here …. Yes the FA have badly affected his career .Why hasn’t the club and player persued them in court ?
Secondly he is a liability in a dog fight and we should look to sell him but on our terms.
Thirdly . If he goes on strike a la Isak and Payet he should be banished from the club and made to wait until his contract runs down or a club pays what he is worth .
One thing you all seem to ignore when you talk about human beings as if they are like you and me, is that they are nothing like you and me. There is not a football player on this planet that is worth a multi-million pound/dollar salary with no checks and balances applied to ensure that everyone’s interests are protected. Contracts are not worth the paper they are written on and just as players need to be protected, so do the clubs they play for. Try sulking in a corner and withdrawing your services as an engineer or nurse and see where it gets you.
While considering Westham’s idiocy across the board on bad decisions I found myself wondering what the name for a collection of idiots is and the closest answer seems to be a noodledom although a herd is in there too . Getting rid of Paqueta is not a bad idea , but Westham have just got rid of Earthy and Guilherme and likely Wilson as well . Westham have no creative midfield options , right winger , decent CB or decent spare striker if Wilson leaves . Nuno ‘ has been ‘ a decent coach but not manager . Nuno did not handle recruitment at Forest which ultimately is why he was sacked having demanded to be involved. Nuno will be sacked between now and the end of the season and Westham will be left with over priced , overpaid wantaways .
I think Paquetta loves the publicity He s going no he s not going to villa then he pretends to throw the phone away. He is going to leave in the summer so let him go now he obviously aint up for the fight we dont need players that are not so anybody else who is not up for it should leave now or is it the threat pf the 50% drop in wages??

Been thinking the same about the FA who should at least be required to explain themselves. Agree, as I did with Ted Fenton, Sue, others who pretty much say thanks for everything, sorry did not work out, understand, wish you well. If there is any betrayal it is on paper only, for me, because of everything he has been put through.
I hope he stays till June and my only thought is whether the club could somehow agree all terms and fees in advance, for him to leave the day after the season ends. Perhaps under those circumstances he’d play willingly for WHU. Wishful thinking I’m sure.
Carrick never good enough as a manager for West Ham, but is for Man Utd. 🤡 🎪 Welcome to sully land – where logic and common sense have never existed SULLY OUT
All very well but as majority owner someone needs to buy his shares for him to go. Who in their right mind with untold wealth would go near us at the moment?
Perhaps the FA did us a favour – It would have meant that the £85m we would have received from City for Paqueta wasn’t also tipped down the drain by Sullivan and Brady.
He has been a liability as much as an asset. I would imagine that they number of times he has lost the ball in our half and then we concede a goal probably outsrips the number of goals he has scored for us.
Whilst great to watch when he is on song it is so rare that we should wish him all the best and let him go back to Brazil. We MUSN’T sell him tp Spurs.
