Statistics often tell a story and the Hammers now have some unbelievable ones, post five Premier league games into the 2024/25 season.
The highest club for dispossessions is West Ham on 74, who similarly have created the second fewest big chances, and conceded more shots than any other side.
All eyes are therefore on the manager, Julen Lopetegui, yet he was brought in for a reason.
His win percentage of nearly 41% at Wolves is more than any manager has ever achieved at the club. Lopetegui also became the first Wolves manager to win his opening match in the top flight since John Barnwell (1978).
Data can be skewed as his time at Wolves was short, yet if we look at his total managerial career he has a win percentage of 55.42%.
There are some skeletons in the cupboard worth noting!
He has a managed some impressive clubs yet the longest tenure was at Sevilla for three years between 2019-2022. This is where he equalled David Moyes and collected a European trophy in 2020.
Prior to this in his first season at Porto they equalled their biggest defeat in European competition losing 6-1 to Bayern Munich, and this was with the clubs biggest ever budget, having signed seven Spanish players.
His spell at Real Madrid was brief, three months to be exact, and he became only the second Real Madrid manager ever to begin his first game in charge conceding four goals.
More recently he picked up another unwanted accolade, when West Ham lost to Chelsea which is the first time the club have ever lost three successive home league games.
Let’s hope the data improves and he builds on the clubs undefeated away record over two games.
The panic button doesn’t need to be pressed quite yet, but the board are expecting more from the new manager and his back room staff.
And Mr. Moyes has more EPL losses than anyone. Win percentage?
The poor individual performance, including the captain’s, is on the players. The bizarre tactics on the manager.
Improve or be relegated.
Sack the Spanish Geezer now. The fans never wanted a Spanish version of Moyes.
The first 3 home games were Villa, City, and Chelsea – no disgrace to lose to them.
If we start losing regularly at home to mid table and promoted teams, we might have an problem but not at the moment.
So for some, the measure of success is based on how we do against Ipswich, Everton, Southampton, Wolves, Palace and Leicester, rather than City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle and Villa? If you are not trying to be the best, why bother, how do you make progress? As a fan I definitely prefer European qualification to a relegation battle.
Should never have signed him. Waste of space , clueless,
Useless
we carry on about losing the first 3 home games in a row, but did anyone stop to think , the mess the previous manager left the SQUAD in then hung around , preventing the new manager getting on with constructive work until the beginning of the new season , then to be confronted with a virtual team of new faces and languages. Does anybody remember anything like this before?
Obviously NOT.
Another defeat on the cards against a Liverpool B team. He couldn’t hold a job down at McDonald’s and he’s a clown
