The Curious Case Of David Moyes Or …..How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Manager

|

The roller coaster ride in being a supporter of our beloved Hammers covers many areas; love, hate, euphoria, dismay or indifference towards players, managers, the board, results, transfers and tactics etc.

By the second half of last season many ( me included) were baying for a David Moyes exit. Results were poor and the apparent tactical rigidity, team selection and oh so late in a match substitutions, were causing many of us to check our blood pressure!

Then….we avoided relegation and won the Europa Conference League Trophy.
???? Ummm…Blimey! what now?

The general consensus was that David Moyes had saved his tenure as manager with that Cup win….the first in decades for us but given most of the opposition, bar that in the the final, our elation was for the club, not David Moyes. ( me included )

He was going to see out his final year of his contract….’we were stuck with him’.
Hmmm…ok.

The summer transfer window opened and the apparent debacle of our initial and late transfer dealings and our memories, being a tad longer than that of a goldfish, began to fan the embers of dissent and frustration into a wildfire. ( me included )

OMG!!!!!
No, no…Wait!…calm down….

By the end of the window we had achieved what many called the best transfer window dealings.
What a roller coaster ride…
Finally, the Premier League begins….
First opposition:
Bournemouth ( A )…Chelsea ( H )…Brighton ( A )…Luton ( A )
Hmmm…5 points..? No…double that…10 pts!!!
Hang on…..’best transfer window’…10 /12 pts…top 4…( nosebleeds )

Clearly the bringing in of Tim Steidten has been a blessing and the rumours of ‘a clash’ between him and David Moyes have been mischievously exaggerated and Mark Noble has had an influential input in our transfers.

We now seem to have a management team that is singing from the same hymn book.

THE PROOF OF THE PUDDING IS IN THE EATING.
If many of us were all too ready to throw some dismal statistics at David Moyes then we should be gracious enough to applaud and recognise his role in our transfers and current league results.

Moyes may not come across as a ‘glamorous character’ as regards a football manager…He is a canny Scot with an often dour look and one of the longest serving managers in the Premier League and like any manager he must be judged on results.

Apart from the ‘aberration’ of last season we are in our 3rd year in Europe, a European cup win under our belt and riding high in the EPL and ….. we have some exciting players soon to boost our squad. What’s not to like?

YOU CAN’T TEACH AND OLD DOG NEW TRICKS
Well…us ‘old dogs’…us life-long supporters…we can surely learn to move on from our past frustrations and stop worrying and learn to love the manager. Can’t we?
COME ON YOU BEAUTIFUL IRONS!!!!!

This window, he’s bought players for his way of playing – and it shows! Pep buys Pep players, Moyes buys Moyes players. Makes sense
Tried something different – didn’t work – playing Moyesball and maybe with a bit more pace and flair this year and we’ll be fine
