The Duran Propaganda Play Nobody Believed

West Ham fans were left scratching their heads yesterday, questioning why the club submitted a £57M bid for Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran. Considering the Colombian forward’s excellent form this season, it’s widely known his value has significantly increased since the summer.

Unsurprisingly, the move has sparked cynicism among Hammers supporters, with many accusing the club of bidding for Duran merely to placate disgruntled fans.

Personally, I’m not convinced this is the case. Firstly, there seems to be little expectation among fans that West Ham will spend big this transfer window. Secondly, I doubt the board is overly concerned with fan sentiment.

It seems more likely that the young striker could have his head turned—much like in the summer. Back then, Duran was pictured on social media making a crossed-hammers sign during a live video, clearly signalling his interest in a move to the London Stadium. However, his circumstances have changed dramatically since.

My own view is a different kind of cynicism: this bid might have been designed to unsettle the player, hoping he would agitate for a move and make him available at a reduced price.

If so, this approach seems doomed to failure and will likely do little to improve relations between West Ham’s hierarchy and Aston Villa’s boardroom.

Whichever way you interpret it—whether it was an effort to unsettle Duran or simply a public relations stunt to claim “we tried”—it feels peculiar to see the club make such a high-profile bid when the odds of success were always slim

In Australia we often use the phrase ‘Doesn’t (or wouldn’t) pass the pub test.’
We use this phrase when we want to seriously dismiss the varacity of what somebody of note (from politicians to football coaches) are saying.
The idea that West Ham were serious about that 57 million is ludicrous, and it doesn’t pass the pub test. Those putting this view would be laughed at and jeered.
I’m finding many decisions and choices of the club I love are becoming increasingly difficult to understand or justify. Mr Sullivan does not pass any pub test.

I feel that this is the usual Sullivan and board saying well we tried. He is a quality player and likely to score goals.
I do believe that if he himself doesn’t want to ‘agitate’ a move then he will settle on being a Villa bench warmer. Villas manager will not make him the no1 starter. A move to West Ham may give him a new lease of life to prove the Villa manager wrong, but they will keep moving the price up because of our desperation and eventually Duran will go for around $40 million or sit on the bench and waste his talent!

There is a rumour that Villa need to sell to meet PSR requirements.
This might not be finished yet but I’d be surprised if he came to the Hammers. He’ll have other options if he was available.

And we stiill have 10 more days of failed John Duran bid stories to go. Fed up of hearing about it. Move on, get a striker

I’m sorry but this was a pure embarrassment.

£57m for Duran is nowhere near enough given he’s now on a new contract, has been banging goals in for fun, and has teams like PSG alert.

Even if it were to unsettle him and make him agitate for a move he’d still go for a hell of a lot more than £57m and not to here now that the world is his oyster.

After the fiasco in the Summer I have no idea how we have the barefaced cheek to be having any further involvements, I wouldn’t have the front to do so.

To be frank our decisions with Duran and with Lopetegui have been that beyond awful that I’m seriously wondering whether certain people have taken leave of their senses.

If we had bid £57m when Steidten was pushing hard to secure him we would most likely have secured Duran.

Two low ball offers by Sullivan is his typical way of mugging off the fans. We normally get this in the summer when it’s season ticket renewal time.

The recruitment analyst at Chelsea who worked with Potter will soon realise his mistake if he joins us.

Having a job title at Weat Ham linked to signing players is a sham. Sullivan prefers to use Unique Sports Management (Will Salthouse) or his other favoured agency Wasserman who we secured Potter from.

Much like our interest in Rashford………a load of you know what,

  • Coatsycoats7 says:

All we have done now is push rates up for any serious bids in the next 2 weeks. Expect an extra 10 million added on top, because we supposedly have money. Clever play Sullivan, what a businessman he is!!

  • SirAlfred says:

“The Sullivan Effect” in full force. Only another 10-15 years of our great leader preventing any progress

  • Mick Bering says:

Just like to add considering our urgent need to strengthen a new c forward leaving it to the end of the window we are showing no ambition no direction a club with no care or connection with us fans

  • Mick Bering says:

Spot on We tried Sick and tired of our clubs cods wallop Its clear SULLIVAN back in charge

  • Andy says:

Surely your not that gullible gonzo

  • Terry says:

Why not bid 70or80 million quid we could make the numbers up as we went along, truth is this bid is absolute nonsense

  • John Lattimore says:

That’s if we believe such a bid was made at all.
