The greatest game you may ever see

Match verdict By Hughie Southon

Quite simply that was the best game of football you could ever wish to see and it was SO West Ham!

Terrible first half against a team who were streets ahead of in class and style and seemingly on their way to a monster victory via  early strikes from Son Heung-Min (1′minutes) and Harry Kane (8′minutes16′minutes)

But this is an entirely new West Ham and a Spuds team trying to stroke  it about with foolhardy arrogance were made to pay in the best way possible.

From three down to 3-3 with a quite magnificent Manu Lanzini screamer thrown into the mix at the very end was just about as good as it gets.

Anyone who wants to pretend that David Moyes was the wrong bloke in the wrong place at the wrong time obviously wasn’t in the Hammers dressing room at half time.

For he and the backroom team brought as astonishing response as anyone could ever have imagined.

Quite simply the lads just grew and grew during a second 45 minutes which saw us do in the last 14 minutes what the Spuds had done in the first quarter of an hour.

A wonderful game, amazing result and everyone of us is proud to be a Hammer tonight.

YOU IRONS!

  1. Whooop!! Still can’t sit down!!
    IRONS!!!!!

  2. Amazing to steal a point off the spuds at the death!
I have to disagree with you though Hugh in regards to the first half because we were far from terrible. Defensively we gave away 3 goals but even at 3-0 we had had more attempt that Spurs, some pretty decent ones too. Apart from that, it was a very even game and the stats show that to a tee and at times I would say we were the better side. We have come away with a point from 3-0 down after 16 mins, had more attempts that Spurs and had 48% possession. Yes we were clearly better in the second half, obviously the last 10 mins but this was a performance that was deserving of what it got at the end.
We were punished early on but unlike Manure we stayed firm, steadying the ship and played good football throughout. Moyes post match interview was spot on when he said about not making subs at half time because we had played well, just defended poorly for 15 mins.
THERE IS NO BETTER FEELING THAT WHEN THAT LANZINI STRIKE HIT THE BAR AND BOUNCED DOWN!!!! COYI
    COYI

  3. Moyes who obviously set up wrong against spurs at least made a great half time team talk and lanzini finished off a over confident spurs 3up side that to be fair with son and Kane two world class players showing some delightful touches were let down by a few poor defenders that switched off. So the clever footwork of masu and cresswell playing well with him coupled by hard working Bowen and some intelligent work by fornals was nice to see on nobody giving up 3down . Moyes actually making the right sub choices with enough time left on a second half performance by our boys must be given credit although I’m still hoping we get a centre back of quality as oggy and rocky need to be replaced with diop and a top class centre back to make the spine strong and Dawson hopefully won’t have to put the shirt on till we get one in . Imo

    • No way we outclassed hugh. 3 Chances 3 goals. At half time I couldnt believe we were losing. So I don’t know what game you were watching. Over 90 mins we were the better team ⚒️⚒️⚒️

  4. I went from being stunned into silence in the first minute to being stunned into screaming in the last minute. . And I couldn’t agree more with you , Hugh , where you give David Moyes The credit he deserves . I’ve seen the tweets and some of them are unbelievable .. there is just no pleasing some people . The west ham of old would have completely crumbled after those opening fifteen minutes , but this is a very different west ham that DM is developing ..

  5. With many Spuds supporting friends and relatives half time was tough as were the constant texts, full time on the other hand… hahaha well Hugh you went for a draw you must have known something 😉
