The club’s plans  a drama free January transfer window have of course gone up in smoke, replaced by a frantic scramble for reinforcements after star midfielder Lucas Paqueta‘s calf injury proved worse than feared. Sidelined for two months, Paqueta joins Jarrod Bowen on the mend, leaving David Moyes‘ attackers looking threadbare.

The Hammers are in hot water

Panicking is understandable. Sixth in the league and Europa League group leaders, the Hammers’ momentum hinges on their attacking duo along with Mo Kudus. Antonio’s ongoing injury and Ings’ struggles add fuel to the fire, while defensive concerns simmer in the background.

Enter Sporting Lisbon’s English winger Marcus Edwards who, according to various news outlets, is emerging as a beacon of hope. A quick, skilful goalscorer , Edwards boasts an impressive pedigree.

Since leaving Tottenham in 2019, he’s wracked up 21 goals and 22 assists in 91 appearances for Sporting, adding Champions League and Europa League experience to his repertoire. He’s even scored against Juventus, Tottenham, Arsenal, and Atalanta .

Edwards could plug the immediate gap left by Paqueta and Bowen, mirroring Bowen’s attacking prowess on the opposite flank.

The pressure’s on. Can West Ham secure Edwards in time to salvage their season? Time will tell, but one thing’s for sure – the Hammers’ January just got a whole lot hotter.

The Hammers have revealed that whilst they aren’t close to making any signings at this moment they are looking at many players and Edwards seems certain to be among them.
