The ‘Head Coach’ Stories That Ignore One Crucial Point

It is open season now on ‘new West Ham United Coach ‘ rumours. Lopetegui is in trouble, the results are poor, with £140 million spent the board have every right to expect the Irons to be sitting higher in the league: If the team loses against Everton on Saturday the Toffees (who were considered a basket case) will leapfrog West Ham who will descend to within about four points of the relegation zone.

The warning signs are there.

However seeing some of the names being banded about, you’d think the job at West Ham was all things to all coaches. This morning it is Brendan Rodgers being tipped by Darren Bent on TalkSport as ‘The One’ to lead West Ham.

This is Brendan Rodgers whose Celtic team is top of the SPL and playing Champions League football. What would West Ham offer to pull him away from that kind of success, to a club deep in crisis, in a rented stadium hated by most fans, with a divided board of Directors and zero chance of spending any money.

Add the Paquetá hearing with lifetime ban threatened and I’d say any coach who leaves work to come to West Ham would have to be pretty undervalued in his present role: Rodgers I’m sure is on a decent payment and probably doesn’t need the aggravation of coming to ‘problem’ club West Ham.

Any coach who is managing a team with European football this season would, to my mind fit into the same category.

So when, for instance, I read today of Inter Milan coach Simeone Inzaghi being on the radar – again, the same applies. Just what would be in it for him? Inter Milan or West Ham United. No European football, 15th or lower in the Premier League, no transfer budget. Best player possibly banned for life, next best one maybe want-away in January.

A bit of a no-brainer. Even by football standards.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970.. 'Football is Life' oh yes. Let it raise your spirit but never darken your mood. Life's too short not to enjoy the journey with our Claret and Blue heroes n' villains.

Why did my previous post get deleted 🤷‍♂️ It wasn’t angry, it was objective and trying to strike up a conversation about who would be a good fit for the club!

Please read this Martin and not delete it again

Was it deleted because I suggested Tim would’ve have recommended Sebastien prior to Sully opting for JLo?

I thought objective conversations about lessons learnt and what is best for West Ham is what C&H is all about / maybe not 🤔

I just want a progressive coach at West Ham.

Or was it deleted because I said don’t make the same mistake twice…..paying a release clause and dispelling PSR due to Kudus being sold in the summer?

If you put links in, your page will get auto-queue’d or deleted as ‘spam’. Self defence, I’ afraid as so many try to bung inappropriate stuff onto our site. I’ve only deleted your posts in the past when they’ve failed the ‘appropriate language’ test 🙂

      • Matt says:

        I “swear” I don’t use inappropriate language 😂

Good to know Martin, thanks 👍

      • Matt says:

Did you read the weblink on Sebastien?

I think we need to pay his release clause and let Tim use his charm and German sense of humour to sell the dream! He could be sitting next to Tim on a jet 🛩️ in time for our game against the Geordies!

Be great to have someone who would work well with Tim and is a progressive coach.

To cover ourselves we install a release clause like Brighton did. That way if they want our man (3rd season it becomes active) if a club crazy enough want him like Chelsea did with Potter (idiots) we are kids in!

I think his brand of football and the fact he is being mentioned alongside Amorin & Alonso make him a no brainer!

        What do you think? 🤔

        • Martin Treasure says:

Far too good a coach for Sully: remember Amorim got rejected because he ‘didn’t have PL experience’!! in favour of – Lopetegui. D’oh
All we can hope is that Tim Steidten gets to choose this time. Might be in with a shout for Hoeness then.
And the other thing, I’ve seen the messages from ‘the highest source’ – WEST HAM DON’T PAY MANAGER COMPENSATIONS. So that’s that dream faded and dead. Sorry!

          • Matt says:

I’ve bashed Sully more than most on here! I’d like to think Sully has seen the errors of his ways and it’s actually his choice.

If we appoint him and it goes wrong then Tim can take the blame for all I care!

Having seen Gonzo’s post linking him I’m super excited I could swear 🤬 but won’t now I know the rules 🤐🤣🤣🤣

Let’s just say I’m as happy as a 🐷 in the brown stuff!

          • Martin Treasure says:

How I hope you are right. Hope Vs experience! Experience says ‘he’ll defer it and do nothing, Lopetegui limps along to a 15th finish in PL. Hope says he fires him 5pm Saturday.

            • Matt says:

              5 o’clock 💥🔫 would be amazing 🙏
it will turn toxic in the stadium if JLo stays soon!

  • Hammeroo says:

Thanks for being realistic, Martin, when some journalists are being ridiculous. It makes me think that a currently unemployed manager, such as Graham Potter, is a more likely candidate.

  • Matt says:

Sebastian Hoeness Is the guy I think can transform us back to where we want to be.

He plays the brand of football that Moyes & JLo cannot deliver. He would work well with Tim and is the type of progressive coach we are crying out for.

I still believe an inspiring coach in the dugout can turn around this season if we act after the Everton game!

Please Sully give us a coach who can take us to the next level. Check out his stats in Germany, he is the standout choice regardless of his release clause.

Don’t make the same mistakes over and over again!

  • Matt says:

    Couldn’t agree more!

Sully had the chance in the summer to take us onward & upwards but his shocking appointment has taken us backward and spiralling downward.

Aston Villa were in a league below us not long ago. Now under ambitious owners, they have a great coach who is aligned with their Director of Football (Monchi) and are a Top 6 club and playing Champions League.

The key for them is that they have Leadership that work well together!
