The man who has taken West Ham by storm

TCotteeTony Cottee is delighted that his managerial choice – Slaven Bilic – is taking West Ham by storm.

The former Hammers striker is far too humble to start claiming he told us so but his prediction on this site that Slav would bring on the good times.

And he told ClaretandHugh exclusively: “Make no mistake the Irons have an incredible chance of winning the Cup. If they play United in the Quarter Final as is likely they will go up there with no fear at all.

“They have drawn at Old Trafford, and should have won, and United need to win the Europa League to ensure they are in the Champions League next season. They have a lot of other targets, nor are they the United of old.”

Cottee said that he believed the manger’s achievements this season – whilst being hailed across the club and football at large – is no more than he personally expected.

He said: “He’s a passionate man who absolutely understands the club and the fans and that – as far as West Ham United is concerned is of paramount importance.

“He’s a very, very cute manager with a great football brain – I always believed he was perfect for this club and it’s going brilliantly.

“He has created the best squad we have had at this club in 15 years and the likes of Dimi Payet and Manu Lnzini are very special talents.”

  1. His choice,I don’t think so this time last year he sat on the fence and was still backing Sam,
Yes he chose Slav once Sam had gone but he is quick to take credit when he gat something right but unlike Franky his striking Partner who has been straight from the start he has sat on the fence or got so much wrong it has split the fans who loved him as a player,
I am glad he is back behind the club now and would I am sure agree the club is in such a good place compared with lady year,
If you want my respect Tony don’t ever sit on the fence that’s what a pundit is not expected to do,
Will always respect you as a hammer but go one way or the other

  2. With you again bubs , but glad he mentioned the jewel, this kid is on par with payet and to prove it , when he came on off the bench we went into overdrive . With both playing it will give teams a huge problem with putting 2 players on payets and freeing up the jewel, they will have to work double hard containing both , then there’s the bard and sakho with moses hopefully coming out of his shell? ( not holding my breath ) and obiang coming on nicely,
Onwards and upwards , let’s start praising the team effort instead of payet , there’s more than 1 class player in this team , proven by the results when payets went missing a few times and the team dug in , payet of course is a godsend but so is lanzini and a few others.

  3. Well said johnboy, it’s not only Payet who should reap the praise and I’m sure Super Slav will give his lads credit. I was delighted to see Lanzini come on, as I’m sure Payet was. Both in the same team work so well. Hope Kouyate’s card appeal goes well and he’d be a big loss. Drive with the ball so well and causes all sorts of problems for the opposing defence with his late runs in to the box.

Also special note has to go to Noble who certainly has his critics. He has been immense in the heart of the midfield and obviously learnt a lot from Super Kev on how to lead on the field and without the whinging too.

Can’t see why Hodgson shouldn’t take him to the euros. He’s excellent on the ball and uses it really well but then it is slightly easier when you can give it to a Lanzini or a Payet.

  4. Yes Hugh I will do the stats, just let me know how to get the information to you after the game, you have my E,Mail address

  5. I agree with JohnBoy. We are getting close to an amazing squad, never mind the team. When Alex Song is struggling for a game, we must be doing something right! 😉

  6. Having said that, here is another little chant:

    Dimitri Payet Chant

    Dimi, Dimi, Dimi, Dimi Payet!
    When the team has troubles,
Pass short or long, give him the ball
    The man performs football ballet!

    Dimi, Dimi, Dimi, Dimi Payet!
If we’re feeling short of bubbles
Excuse us, Nobes – give him the ball!
Dance Dimi, shoot Dimi – play the West Ham Way!

  7. Don’t go on the X factor mate unless you have a talented dog,or a pantomime Hippo,
Big decision this Saturday does the Jewel start next to Payet or not,
Yes for me because they will pack their defence looking for that most gifted point,
    Emineke,Antonio,Lanzini,Payet
    Noble Kouayte
    Byram,Ogbonna,Collins Cresswell
    Adrien
Sorry Moses but that’s my choice,
We need to show how we are a class act not just against Championship sides but also next seasons Championship sides
