Quite simply, Sullivan needs to sit down with club captain Jarrod Bowen and offer him whatever he needs to in order to keep the Hammers’ winger at the club for one more season. Bowen, almost thirty, will not be at the top of most Premier League sides’ shopping lists and could be absolutely lethal in the Championship.
Loanees, old lags and youngsters can’t do it on their own. Sullivan needs to rip up that relegation clause – a clause which would probably save the club a maximum of £3 million a year in Bowen’s case – and make him an offer to stay for one year to guide West Ham back to the Premier League. The prize is reportedly a £150 million plus payday for promotion back to the top tier. Do the maths.

People keep saying 100 million for Summerville and Fernandez, it’s not going to happen, 60 to 70 tops , and that’s being optimistic.
We need to rake in £150 million just to buy the next three Kilmans.

So you want to pay him £200k per week? Now I love Jarrod and I want him to stay but he is already on £150k per week with no relegation clause. So his wage won’t drop. I cannot agree with you about paying him more and he sure as hell doesn’t need more.
You make it sound as if it just offering money. There are financial constraints to work within. This isn’t about giving one player what he wants. West Ham has been good to Bowen (and Bowen to West Ham) and one year’s pay cut to over sixty thousand a week, plus bonuses, is hardly going to put him in the poor house. Bowen fits at West Ham. Whether he would make it at a big club – if you don’t succeed you’ll find yourself in a bomb squad – who knows. Bowen worked hard but by his standards did not have a great season. If he went to a big six club would he be a starter, not just now but in a year or two? In reality his England career is done. After the World Cup the focus will be on younger players. For him it’s a complex equation. The club should support him in whatever his decision is.
