The most important Irons summer for many years

So the list of games against Brighton goes from seven to eight without a win!

Even the return of Declan Rice – looking nearly as good as ever – failed to break the hoodoo.

But the slip in form over the last five games really shouldn’t come as surprise as it has happened to every team in the Prem during this strange season.

Even Manchester City weren’t at the best in the early games and of course the likes of  Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and most others have had their slumps.

It’s just that ours have come at precisely the wrong time with Champions League a real possibility.

However, terrific though it would be I have mentioned in the past that it may just be that as David Moyes said during a recent presser we have been shooting for the stars.

Should we fail to make it I believe it will show clearly that a size of ours it would have been  problematical excursion into the game at the highest level.

This may be then most important summer we have entered for in many years.

We have seen what is possible under this manager and right recruitment for which the boss has often been famed will see us well and truly on our way over the next few seasons.

  1. It’s much more important that we improve year-on-year, in terms of the depth and quality of the squad, than it is to qualify for Europe. If we do that for two or three seasons in a row, the more likely it is that we’ll be regularly.knocking on the door of European qualification, with a squad that can cope, and on the door of the latter stages of the domestic cup.competitions. If we lose one or two players along the way, so be it. I trust Moyes to find replacements and adapt, as long as he gets the backing of GSB.

  2. Irrespective of what happens over the next two games, we’ve done amazingly well. With one injury prone striker in the team we’ve outgunned teams like Everton and Arsenal and are on par with CL finalists, Chelsea. Top marks to Moysie for restoring some pride to our club and istilling a teamwork ethic in the players, rather than the bunch of self important overpaid prima donnas we see at other clubs.

  3. I agree it has been an amazing season, one we could not have expected. Last night I thought we outplayed Brighton on their own patch and I have seen a lot of Brighton this season and very few teams do that to them there. I thought it was a good performance but yes with the right procurement this summer I trust Moyes to bring in more clinical players up top. I would say though that it will be very disappointing not to finish in the top 7 of the PL and Europe so I just hope we win the last two games and achieve what we have worked so hard for. – I believe it is important to do that this season.

  4. Sorry Jack , but we are not on the same level as Chelsea and remains to be seen if we have outgunned Everton .
Having said that it’s been a season of undisputed progress .
Sadly I fear the funds won’t be there to improve the squad to ensure future progress .
I believe Rice may have to be sacrificed to raise money .

  5. Selling Rice completely wrong and foolish. Sends out all the wrong signals which in effect are the right signals. push west ham hard enough and they are still a selling club. On the same old road to nowhere.Completely foolish. And will get there. Nowhere.

    • Don’t disagree Mojen , but where are the funds to retain our best players and recruit better than the average !

  6. Yes, it is vital that we build on this success with fresh investment on new players and not rely on sales to fund purchases. Every time the Hammer’s have had a good season in the past has been followed by a poor one due to underinvestment, so all the momentum has been lost. Despite the impact Covid has had on finances the Board must invest, particularly to recruit in those areas where the team has no cover.

    • You can’t say the ‘Despite the impact Covid has had on finances the Board must invest,’ Covid dictates what we invest, what we invest isn’t based on anything despite Covid. Have you not paid attention during the last year???
