The Moyes vedict …and no excuses

David Moyes delivered his verdict on the game soon after the end and made it plain and siple declaring: “The big thing was Leicester played well and we didn’t – we can’t dress it up in any other way

“I’m disappointed with the performance, although I wasn’t disappointed with the fact we improved in the second half and gave ourselves a chance.

“In the end, we were slightly chasing the game and a bit of bad defending for the third goal really put the game to bed.

“I felt as if we’d got ourselves right back in it, but in a way went chasing it a little bit when we should probably have waited to try and get it. We got picked off once or twice, but as I said I thought Leicester played well today.

“We have been doing okay, so tonight was disappointing.”

However, he was delighted with the performance of returning Michail Antonio declaring: “Antonio gives us something, he allowed us to play the ball forward and maybe get in behind a bit more.

“We hadn’t had that in the first half at all – we struggled to get out and struggled to make enough good passes.

“In the second half, we got the ball forward a bit more which gave us the opportunity to get up the pitch. It was good to get Michail back because he is so important to us.

“We won’t make any excuses [over the result], we’ll get back on the training pitch and work to be better. We’ve been good – tonight was probably the worst I’ve seen us defensively at different times, but overall we just need to do much better.”

  1. So if Moyes knows that Antonio gives us something’ why on Earth didn’t he play him from the start?

  2. I suspect Moyes is now realising that the squad he has inherited this time around is NOT as good as the one he inherited 2 seasons ago. Pelle signed a lot of flaky players and that damage is not easily undone. Players who frankly are not up for the fight we now face….

you begin to ask yourself if this team really deserves to stay up or really can. Defending for second, third goals and 4th tonight was shocking. But we seem to consistently give away poor goals. With this run of games we have coming up where are we going get points from?

Hugh I admire your positivity but perhaps our luck has finally run out in the Premiership.

I don’t see any fight in this team. very disappointing.

  3. Needs to kick the players up the backside and get them running off the ball, closing down and supplying Haller.

  4. A shocking decision to appoint him. He plays negative football, he is not brave, always respecting the point, picks the wrong players, has his favourites no matter how they are playing. Plays 1 up in a 3-5-2 formation with 2 strikers on the bench. Play Lanzini in behind 2 strikers. It is so simple yet he cannot work it out or is afraid. This is exactly why I never wanted him in the first place. We are in big trouble with this negativity in his team selections.

  5. Get back on the training ground and work to be better same old same old after defeat ..Can’t wait for the face bòok video of the players having a laugh and joke 👍👍

    • Fear he has an irreparable issue and will break down if he isn’t managed? Lanzini has to be taken out of it, just seems to lack motivation for a fight. Have to say it’s not unusual for teams to play one up front, we have a problem in that the attacking midfielders aren’t good enough to create opportunities and get around him. With regard to two up front, will he take the risk with a midfield that gets overrun now

  6. Bilic, Pellegrini, Moyes, It doesn’t matter.
The problem lies with the owners. Spend peanuts and get monkeys! Volunteer scout who watch online streams gives you what you invest in.

    Randolph. Released but brought back
    Zabaleta. To old
    Cresswell can’t defend, can’t cross
    Noble. Slow and old
    Masuaku. No football brain
    Lanzini. Currently nothing to offer
    Fornals. Great at passing backwards
Haller. Slow and used the wrong way
The list goes on. GSB is now harvesting their crop.

  7. Pellegrini signed a lot of flaky players?
Last night was about a non existent Lanzini for the umpteenth time,a lackaidaisical Masuaku, an aging Noble that has no time on the ball and an all puff and no huff Snodgrass – None of them were signed by Pellegrini, btw.

  8. Agree with George about the players, but Pellegrini knew their failings & did not sign a pacy midfielder instead he thought players with technical ability would be ok ie Fornals. But we fans all know the prem is not suitable for those players unless you also have grafters in the team who can break up the oppositions attacks & then bring in the technical players to hopefully go forward & create chances so unless Moyes twists Sullivan’s arm & gets at least two players in ( left back, midfielder ) we look like going down
