David Moyes was talking positives by and large when he assessed the latest Hammers outing at the London Stadium against Brighton.
Yes, the draw was hard to take after dominating the game for long periods but once again the team failed to see out the 90 minutes and finished up taking a point which saw us slip into the bottom three.
But the manager refused to mention that or dwell on a scenario which is becoming scarier by the game as we enter matches against Manchester City away before the international break and Liverpool afterwards.
That’s followed by Southampton at home, Arsenal (a) Wolves (h) and Spurs (a) – a series of fixtures which have alarm bells ringing through the club and fan base.
It’s very difficult right now to see where the next point is coming from – never mind three – but the manager saw plenty of positives from yesterday’s game.
Speaking at https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/february/01-february/david-moyes-we-did-lot-good-things he said: ” I thought the performance, in the main, was very good.
“I thought we made a couple of really, really silly mistakes and, because of that, it obviously labels the team because we are a team, but for long periods of the game our performance was very good.
“We were 2-0 up and 3-1 up and we carried a threat at different times, as did they. I thought we did an awful lot of good things, but it’s been tarnished by a couple of mistakes.
“We gave them a leg up just after half-time, then a massive leg up at 3-1, just after we had taken Micky Antonio off after 70 minutes.
“We were hanging on at that time and it became quite difficult by the end. For us to play Liverpool and the effort the players put in in midweek, I thought fatigue played a part in the second half and it had an impact on it.”
He added: “I thought Tomáš Souček did very well, Ryan Fredericks has just come back from a hamstring, and Micky Antonio has returned as well and, in their own way, I thought they all contributed
“I think you would say Tomáš was very unlucky and he could have had a couple of goals.
“I think his effort was something we were glad to see as he was someone who will get in the box and get us goals. For his debut, you’d have to say he has done really well.
“I have to say a lot of the players did really well for us, so the disappointing thing was that, from having a good lead and looking on course for three points, we let it slip.
“We go again. In the end, we take a point from the game. We need to do more than that but, look, one is better than none.”
The Moyes Verdict Now …… Sack Him Now. He is not West Ham material & to SG&B please sell our club now to give us ant chance of a future
Moyes struggled at Man Utd with decent players. We’ve got average players at best & that is debatable in some cases so theres only one way we are going……… down down down
We have some half decent players but we also have some absolute dross – namely Masuaku / Sanchez / Fredricks & Lanzini at present, but what worries me most is the manager :- he has no idea at all & it is very reminisant of the dark days under Sammy Mcillroy & we all know what that was like !!!!!!
Haller is not a target man upfront on his own? Moyes after all of his last games in charge sould see or must see this ??? he’s no Duncan Ferguson or even Arnie who converted to the one up front under Moyes last stint here? Haller is a player who like a number 10 ‘knocks on the ball on to the target man upfront, he looks lost in the role he’s playing or even disinterested ?Moyes at some point is going to have to play him in the role he knows as a number 10 or drop him because on his own it’s not working?? Because all our goals so far are coming from defenders and midfielders and certainly not from the hapless Haller
By the way Diafra Sakho is a free agent at 30 worth A punt?? At least knows us as we do him and can play one up front?? ( I wonder if he’s car is in the car park?🤣🤣🤣)
Bring back Teddy , Hartson , Kitson , Cottee Mcavenie , Cross even Marco Boogers ( no sorry i’m joking on that one ) they might all be past their sell by dates but i bet they would all fight for the cause more than Lanzini & Haller & a few others !!!
Crumbs of comfort ! But, none of it matters. What does matter is that the defence are a shambles & we give silly goals away. When we get a lead, we surrender it; & this really matters when it is against teams like Brighton. If we cannot beat them (when 2 goals ahead) who are we going to beat ? – almost certainly not any of our next 6 opponents ! If that happens, we are down Wait, we are down, anyway because we are crap compared to any of the other teams near the bottom. The players should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. Are they ? I doubt it.
Ashamed for taking £100k a week (£5mil +per season) for playing in 6 premiership games and scoring 0 assisting 0 and taking a valuable squad place…… You know who I mean!
Two of our goals were deflected flukes which were never going in without massive deflections
Other than our first we created little threat on their goal and subbing Antonio was exceptionally poor..
George the first looked like as though it was heading for the bottom corner. It was definitely on target and only a full stretch save from Ryan would have kept it out. The second was also on target and Ryan was not catching it bearing in mind the height and pace on it. Either way you look at it, Snoddy has hit both of them well enough for the defender to have to do something, so deflection or not, they are both credited to him as they are on target. Ryan had to pull off some decent saves too to ensure it was only 2 at halftime.
I like you am gutted that we threw the three points but I don’t agree that we didn’t deserve to score our goals because we did. Brighton were gifted 2 of their goals and they were absolute gifts
