The Moyes verdict on another defeat

David Moyes admitted the Irons were set problems to which they failed to find an answer this afternoon against Everton.

The stats show we have 64 per cent of the ball while creating two shots on goal before finishing up beaten by Dominic Calver-Lewis strike.

So despite his changes to the team in bringing in Mo Kudus and Aaron Cresswell the Hammers boss watched his former club beat us at our own counter attacking game.

His explanation for the defeat was basically that Everton were, he said, really good at what they do  which saw the full backs and wide players working to stop crosses coming in, thus forcing the Hammers back and inside.

That’s all well and good but surely knowing how good he reckons the Toffees are at such tactics we might have worked on ways to sort out the problem.

Instead it wasn’t until really late in the game that we managed to bring a real save out of Jordan Pickford via Said Benrahma.

He said in his after match presser however: “This was a game I was worried about in many ways as Everton have been much better away from home and they’re a side who it took Liverpool 65 or 70 minutes to get the first goal against last week, so they’re not a side who are giving up goals easily.

I’m disappointed because we’ve lost here as our record at London Stadium has been pretty good.I’m disappointed because, although I knew it would be tough and really, really close today and we couldn’t do it, but we’ve got another chance to get rid of that in midweek [when we host Arsenal in the EFL Cup fourth round].

Hmm, we seem to be hearing the same stuff on a very regular basis and in fact before today they had beaten Brentford away and drawn at Sheffield United in the PL.

Did he say much better?

I was pleasantly surprised by our start to the season. But it now looks like nothing has really changed.
How can a team with paqueta, bowen and kudus be so dull to watch???
Today again was a rudderless display by a team unsure how they are meant to be playing.
Paqueta looks disinterested (and who could blame him) this is a guy that man city wanted as their no.10 and we playing him out on the left and ask him to track back🤔.
Alvarez for all the good he does, in possession slows everything down by having too many touches and and pointless turns.
Ive been a massive fan of antonio, but his powers are waning and he carries next to no goal threat anymore.
