Aaron Cresswell looks likely to become the next West Ham skipper following the departure of Declan Rice this summer.
Sadly, following the current skipper’s departure it is quite difficult to see a natural leader on the pitch where he has been so influential following Mark Noble,
But after Mark Noble and Declan it really is hard to see a player who fits the mould that has been left behind by those two.
The next Irons skipper
Only Cress and Jarrod Bowen look likely if we are going to maintain the tradition but the left back hasn’t always shown the right sort of form and Jarrod doesn’t look to be in a position from which to lead.
Michail Antonio looks set to be on his way and at this point Danny Ings would be a non starter. So if we are going to look outside of those then one of the two central defenders – Aguerd or Zouma looks likely.
For me? Cress with Zouma as back up!
Thilo Kehrer is my first choice. He is a natural leader, super passionate, leads by example and is hard as nails. He can play across the backline and defensive mid. Yes he made errors during the first half of the season but has been solid the last few month.
If we end up with Ward-Prowse we’ll have a ready made Captain. Imo Dec is a bit too matey with the players but then again so was Nobes. Aguerd or Zooooma.
I think Jarrod Bowen might make a good captain. I’m not sure exactly what Hugh Southon means by “Jarrod doesn’t look to be in a position from which to lead”. Maybe because he plays, mostly, up front?
Anyway, he is really dedicated to West Ham, has stated his love for the club. His partner Dani and future father-in-law Danny Dyer are West Ham and East End through and through. That means something! Hopefully Jarrod will be at the Hammers for years to come!
I agree. He is the Czech Republic skipper and so is best qualified
IMO Soucek will be captain.
Yes I think he will struggle to keep his place, which would make him club captain but would require an on field captain like Zoom for many games. His game is currently riddled with errors which wouldn’t help his captaincy either. I prefer Zoom or even Oggy.
I’m not sure Cress will be a starter next season so maybe Zouma skipper with Cress as vice?
The worst Stats in the Premier League for a Defender and they want him for a Captain. Cresswell should be out, not given a promotion. To old and finished. No other decent Club would do it.
