West Ham United’s decision not to sign Viktor Gyokeres last summer is a significant missed opportunity. The Swedish striker has proven to be a phenomenal talent, and his absence from the Hammers’ squad is a source of regret for many fans.
Viktor Gyokeres’s rapid rise to prominence has been impressive. His performances for Coventry City and Sporting CP have showcased his goal-scoring ability, creativity, and overall quality.
The Hammers had the opportunity to sign Gyokeres last summer but David Moyes ultimately decided against the move as he felt West Ham didn’t need to sign a striker to replace Scamacca as he wanted to use Jarrod Bowen up front.
As West Ham dithered Sporting swooped, signing him for just £17m. That’s £500k less than West Ham paid for Maxwel Cornet the summer before!
Last season he scored 34 goals and laid on 12 assists as Sporting won the title, and he has continued his good form by already scoring eight goals and three assists in just five games for club and country this season.
To say Gyokeres has been a revelation and an absolute bargain is an understatement.
Gyokeres’s presence at West Ham United could have significantly enhanced the team’s attacking options. His goal-scoring ability and creativity would have complemented the existing squad and provided a much-needed boost to the team’s firepower.
OMG, I think I’m going to faint – I utterly and totally agree with you on this guy! I was gutted we didn’t try and buy him.
Moyes in typical trademark “Dithering Dave” style! What a welcome transformation the Steidten way of doing transfers has become.
Moyes had the final say, and after watching him several times deemed him a Championship player and not a striker who would better our roster! Now he is a £70M+ striker. Think Sporting took a punt at around the £20M mark wit a 15% sell on to Coventry. Big error of judgement
Just another example of the ineptitude of DM, thank goodness we don’t have to suffer any longer!
To be filed with the story of how we almost bought Cole Palmer it didn’t happen so let’s move on with the players that we’ve got
