The Price is Too High | West Ham Unwilling to Budge on Striker Value

West Ham have informed Claret & Hugh that they are still assessing Evan Ferguson and have not yet made a decision on whether to sign the player from Brighton.

The 20-year-old Irishman has seen little to no game time since joining the club in January, which is believed to have upset The Seagulls.

But reports that West Ham have made up their mind not to follow up interest in Ferguson have been refuted by the club when speaking to C&H this morning.
“It’s too early to say,” claimed a top source at the London Stadium, who continued: “We are still assessing him and he could still play a part this season.”

In reality, Ferguson is going to find it hard to get into the team now that Niclas Füllkrug has regained some degree of fitness. The German striker looked exceptional in his 40 minutes against Bournemouth, scoring a goal and generally making a nuisance of himself.

Ferguson’s main hope seems to rest with Hammers boss Graham Potter sticking with a system in which Lucas Paquetá and Jarrod Bowen can both be providers. Perhaps if the Brighton loanee and Füllkrug can share striker responsibilities, there might be a chance to shine. It would certainly be fair to say that Ferguson has not had a fair chance to prove himself during limited game time in East London.

However, any chance that West Ham will pay anything close to Hove Albion’s £50m transfer valuation is fanciful. The south coast club would have to drastically reduce their asking price for any deal to be considered.

    Delap all day long…

The reason that Potter isn’t playing Ferguson is that he’s currently rubbish after his severe ankle injury . Westham mustn’t gamble anywhere near 50 million on a player who may never recover his best form . Mateta would be a safe bet at 40 million .

Or Beto, mobile quick strong And efc are thinking of selling him alto he’s got 2yrs I think on his contract. But he’s only 25

I’d be disappointed if we coughed up for him after offering less than required to get Duran last summer. He’s had little opportunity to impress but when he has come on I wasn’t impressed. I can only assume that he doesn’t look like £50M worth in training either.

Villa made a lot of money on Duran but what would be the situation if we had signed him. He’s on nearly seventeen million a year in Saudi. Had he come to us would he now have been pushing for a move at the end of the season? Signing Duran might have made us some money but he would never have stayed. He’d probably be on strike at this point.

Zero opportunity? Don’t have to think back very far to remember a golden opportunity he had to score and overran the ball. That may have been a sliding door moment. We needed cover at the time and he provided it. Brighton are the big losers here. Any ideas of a huge transfer fee from either us or anyone else are gone.

Sounds incredibly like a conspiracy theory but I can’t believe a Potter favourite, in a position we were desperate for didn’t get game time. Is this a case of the season is done and if he plays well we pay a fortune or can’t afford him but with a bit of game management and lack of minutes do we get him for £40m and not £60m? Is he doing it in training and we are going to get him in the summer without putting him in the shop window for other clubs to up his price.

Stupid loan signing, been injured and not match fit , passes the medical, HOW

Why would we pay good money for Ferguson when he can’t get a look in whilst on a loan deal?

Potter would seemingly rather play without a striker than put his faith in him. Seems strange to be contemplating a permanent move under such circumstances.

Do not want the player regardless of his playing time and if you believe the Rumours that Brighton want Delap i think that tells you all as Ferguson is meant to be a similar player so why would they? because he has already become a lame duck for them….i’d be happier if we got injury prone Bamford from Leeds than Ferguson at any price.
