I don’t often look back at transfer speculation, but with this one, I can’t help doing so. Jhon Duran. Looks like the one that got away, at this stage, doesn’t it?
Robbie Keane has been speaking on his Betway blog about Duran, I just wish the quotes were about him in a West Ham shirt.
If reports are to be believed we bid several times in the summer transfer window for Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran, and with his Instagram ‘scandal’ (people really do get upset over nothing these days, don’t they!?) it looks like he was totally happy to move to West Ham.
However, and again, we can only go on press reports, Aston Villa stood firm in their valuation and West Ham didn’t follow through with the purchase.
He won the goal of the season award for Villa last season, with this cracker:

but has already beaten that goal, twice over, in the early days of the 2024/2025 season, one that will surely win the goal of the season award for most pundits against Everton and another against German giants Bayern Munich in Villa’s Champions League match on Wednesday.
Some are labelling him a super sub, but at present, he is their top scorer. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is odds on at Betway, to remain so.
As said, the one that got away? We might well live to regret not pushing through the transfer, these sorts of strikers are rare and the price – again if the press reports were right – of around £40million is nothing. Bet he will now be valued at twice that.
Keane says Duran is standing out for Villa. Adding, “Jhon Duran looks a really good player. I don’t think he would like the reputation of a super sub – nobody does – but as a manager, you want your players to make an impact off the bench. He’s certainly doing that. His time will come, but it’s going to be tough because he’s got Ollie Watkins in front of him, who’s scoring goals and is a very good player. Aston Villa will play so many games now that they’re in the Champions League, so Duran will get his opportunity and he looks like a real handful.”
So true, when he got his opportunity, he takes it, just ask Bayern Munich.
