Things didn’t look good for West Ham under Julen Lopetegui, as the team was fighting a relegation battle at one point. Things got a little better with the appointment of Graham Potter, but there is still room for improvement. The team seems more stable and there is once again a desire to win.
In the past 6 matches, the Hammers managed to get 2 wins, 2 draws, and 2 losses. West Ham was unlucky during the draws and losses as the matches were very close until the end. For this somewhat decent form, we must give credit to a couple of players.

He didn’t receive any cards and was good at defending the right flank. This entire season, Wan-Bissaka got only one yellow card and no red cards in the Premier League. In recent matches, he even showed improvements in his attacking, especially when linking up with Bowen, Paqueta, and Kudus.
Max Kilman – The Rock in West Ham’s Defence
Max Kilman has been a key player for West Ham this season as he hasn’t missed a single match. His form dropped in September and January, but he managed to return to his best. In the past 6 events, Kilman was exceptional in the defence, especially against Arsenal.
His only somewhat poor performance came during West Ham’s loss against Newcastle at home. However, Kilman is not to blame as the entire team wasn’t decisive in this match.
Opposition attackers had a hard time dealing with Kilman due to his height and strength. But, we must not forget that there are 2 other central defenders next to him that do the covering.
James Ward-Prowse – A Maestro That Connects the Defence and Attack
We need to mention the playmaker who sets the tempo in every match. James Ward-Prowse also acts as a bridge between the defence and attack. This player didn’t score a goal for West Ham in his last 6 matches. But, he did assist Niclas Fullkrug against Bournemouth.
The featured assist came in from a corner cross, which isn’t a surprise as he’s exceptionally good during set-pieces. Ward-Prowse was also amazing during the wins against Arsenal and Leicester.
His only one somewhat bad showing came in versus Wolverhampton where Potter subbed him off in the 77th minute. Despite his poor performance, he still managed to get a 90% pass accuracy in that match.
Tomas Soucek – The Team’s Most Dangerous Header
One additional player who deserves mentioning is Tomas Soucek. Most of his recent matches were good as he greatly helped his team on several occasions. This tall Czech midfielder managed to score against Leicester and Everton, which were decisive for the win and draw, respectively.
His only poor performance was during the loss against Newcastle. But, to be fair, the entire team wasn’t up to the task that day.
He also came on as a sub against Wolverhampton but wasn’t able to help his team in the last 14 minutes. As for the Arsenal and Bournemouth matches, Soucek was decent throughout, especially in the air.
