There are Irons who want the team beaten – incredible!

Sometimes you simply despair and wonder exactly what is getting into people’s heads!

Straight to the point here: Never once in the 57 years I have supported this club have I wanted them to lose – not once – and I’ll go to my grave in the same mind.

Like most – but clearly not all – the idea of the Irons losing tomorrow (Sat) is anathema to me

Like many I want Manuel Pellegrini gone. There’s no doubt about that and I have little doubt – without any inside knowledge at all – that it will happen.

I have read his quotes from yesterday’s presser – in despair – because there remains no passion  and no explanations – just a jumble of often incoherent words delivered in broken English which are sometimes difficult to follow.

No doubt some numbskull will call that racist – it’s not. I find it impossible to take notes of his quotes…first time ever in my journalistic experience. It’s just a fact.

Over the past three or four days I have had personal conversations with fans and read the same comment on the forums – people claiming they want us beaten at Saints because that will leave the board no option but to fire him.

That’s appalling simply because No 1 it’s not necessarily true and  No 2 it’s a betrayal of the club we are supposed to be supporting in all circumstances.

To repeat, I want him gone but he will do that to himself in my view. It could be tomorrow night or on Boxing Day because he has made the wrong signings and refuses to change the formation and tactical approach which is failing time after time.

He’s lost the plot for sure and eventually the axe must fall and personally even if he wins or draws tomorrow I’d want him sacked.

But I will never ever claim that I want the team beaten. For me that’s just a betrayal of an important part of my life.

  1. Agreed Hugh – I also think that Pelle should go to put all of us out of our misery. I dont hate him but have never taken to him say the way that I took to Slav – but even with Bilic in the last days you just wanted an end to it because it clearly wasn’t working

However tomorrow night I will be hoping for a win and will cheer if we score – I can even dream of 0-2 with goals for Fornals and Haller – and if that happens and Pelle is once more given two games (and remember we face Leicester after being away at Palace on Boxing day) – I’ll take that too

    COYI

  2. Agreed. Had the same feeling when I filled the poll. Incredible how politics have dig deep in our hearts undermining what our beloved team is about: brotherhood. Shame!

  3. I wouldn’t say anyone actually wants the team beaten, but if they do it wouldn’t be a bad thing. Something needs to change, and we will get relegated if Pelle continues to be arrogant with his tactics and team selections.

  4. The problem here Hugh is that should the unlikely happen and we win at Southampton then it will just paper over the cracks and give our owners another excuse not to sack our manager. All of the other clubs with failing managers have acted yet we stick with a manager who just seems to have no clue as to how to get us winning again. So, in the absence of our owners making sacking the manager, I will sadly go with whatever is needed to make them see sense and to bring in someone who can take us forward. Hopefully this will be someone who we can understand when he talks to the media.

    • Hugh I’m truly surprised you think that will happen for sure regardless ! A win at Southampton will buy 2 or 3 more games 2 points from them will buy another week and so on and so on. Losing on Saturday is like pulling a plaster off quickly it fkn hurts but at least it’s done.

  5. Totally agree Hugh as I commented on previous articles I want a win and a win at Palace and a point at least v Leicester I have never ever and never ever will hope we get beat.but I see the comment that Ian made that it papers and covers the cracks temporarily and totally agree. . So should we get beat by The Saints the board have got 10 days to define v the future of OUR BELOVED CLUB and do the obvious right thing for us all..coz the championship is LOOMING LARGE

  6. Your missing the underlying problem Hugh. The muppet owners DO NOT have deep enough pockets to sustain or maintain West Ham Utd therefore as the liars they have proved to be ( don’t need to rehash all the new stadium promises) they won’t sack MP unless they have to. Floating in the bottom 6 he keeps his job, bottom 3 the muppets are FORCED to act…. That’s why as 57 year old supporter I hope we get beat and beat well!!! I’m looking at the BIG picture and the future your looking at it with a blind emotion that losing is a bad thing…. Got to reach rock bottom sometimes to begin recovery!!!

    • WE wrote about it al less than a week ago. Of course we understand and I still don’t want my team beaten. Be careful with the abuse against anyone. I can’t publish libel. I have checked those statements many times re the stadium which has nothing to do with the current scenario anyway and there were never promises. As we said in our piece which you haven’t read – total over hype. There’s a difference and were tyou to read the piece correctly you would see I too look at the big picture and indeed say I would have wante dhim sacked by now. I think you are the one being emotional with your dislike

      • Well said! Surely no-one actually wants their team to lose and rightly our owners should give their manager every opportunity to make it work. I think most of us are now in agreement that it’s time for a change. MP lacks charisma but there can’t be any part of him that wanted to fail and so it should be with sadness we part with a manager and optimism for someone more successful #fortunesalwayshiding

    • I totally agree with you mate, a win tomorrow will only papar over the cracks, i love west ham with a passion but i also want us to succeed and if losing tomorrow which forces the idiots who say they love west ham to sack Pellegrini the so be it. Yes a loss will hurt us again but we have to look at whats happening in the long run, if we stick with Pellegrini we wont succeed in my opinion and thats all it is an opinion ⚒⚒⚒

    • If he scrapes a win then he will stay for longer wich means more damage to the team so yes Im. One of the people that wouldn’t mind to much if we lose if it means he goes straight away…sorry not afraid to say it ..

  7. Like many on this forum Hugh.I have posted quite a few opinions about Pellegrini and the reasons he needs to go.The more i think about it the more i realise we could be heading into the abyss unless this happens. If we win tomorrow, and get positive results against Palace and Leicester Pellegrini will turn around with that strange grin he possesses and say “there i told you so,its all coming together oh yeah of little faith”.This is the fatal scenario for us because we can see with our own eyes in the way they play, the set up, the lack of fitness that something is drastically wrong within this group of players and the common denominator is the manager and he will never change.God forbid he stays the only solution i could see is appointing a Director of football to keep him in check and overide his dodgy tactics if needed, but can anyone see a stubborn 66 year old accepting that. The owners have made a rod for their backs because this could limp on for weeks well into the new year on the back of a couple of freak results that mask the real issues.

  8. I appeared on Talksport this morning on the Alan Brazil show – speaking as ‘Michael of Hertfordshire’, I attempted to give my view about wanting the Team to lose at Southampton. I said I was in a quandary in that I never want the Team to lose but I want Pellegrini gone!

It’s a difficult one, if you want Pellegrini out you are therefore hoping the Team fail at Southampton – what an awkward position to be in – I suppose what most of us Punters want is to move on from Pellegrini, his ‘regime’ has been unsuccessful and the days of going for a Foreign Manager would appear to be over – I certainly hope so anyway!

  9. think a lot of you are missing the point, i would never wish to see my team lose, i am a supporter of over 60 years, and supported them through thick and thin , mainly thin.
football today is about who spends the most money gets the most success. liverpool, man city, chelsea, we have two people in charge of our club that are always looking to do things on the cheap, we are never going to be successful with these owning our club .
if we had the best manager in the world, and they never let him have any money he would be a failure.
one other fought, how do you think pelle , who has never finished as low as he did last year with any club that he has managed, think of the mess these two are making of our club.
pelle won premier league with city , plenty of money they,no money to spend at westham, relegation

  10. I actually know some West Ham fans who don’t just want us to lose on Saturday but would rejoice in us being relegated – seeing that as the only way to force the owners out and shed us of the modern plastic Premiership fan.

The problem is for some fans, it no longer feels like our West Ham, so wanting to lose games matters less if it forces the owners to axe the manager. It’s a complete reflection of the loss of connection between fans and owners.

  11. Reading your blog earlier in the week when interviewing a potential managerial candidate, Hugh. Whoever this was ( appreciiate you can’t disclose this ! ) I hope they get the job as their observations regarding the team and what needs urgently addressing was bang on.
Been a very long time you could say this about any West Ham manager !

  12. People are stupid to want our team to lose.I think that even if we do win Pelle needs to go.I do feel sorry for him ,for things not working out.He seems like a nice guy.He is human like all of us and things don’t always turn out the way things should. If they did we would still have the same manager , whoever that was from 10 yrs ago and qualifying for Europe every year. All I know is,I bet whoever we get next is gonna have a torrid time and maybe get the sack too, cos I think 50% of our problem is our lazy players.

  13. Can’t believe people think that if we win he will still get the sack ….beggars belief..😂😂 never see that before…if he keeps scraping the odd win it will just go on and on ……so as Hugh would say …incredible…but to me it’s incredible he is still sucking the life out of this club …

  14. A loss is a win in the long term , the muppets that control are club will have at act , a 2 week period to get a new face on board a chance to asses the team and find a formation that suits the quality players we have and start winning again, for once we have talent in the 1st team and the u23,s , we can get top 6 with the real west ham manager at the lead, and to finish how do you think a 60 something has been with no ambitions is going to turn this lack of fight and passion around , not going to happen coyi
